Bulldogs split two games in Powell River

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs split two games in Powell River this past weekend.

7-1 Loss in Powell River

Tommy Bannister opened the scoring for the Bulldogs 6:15 into the first period – the only goal the Bulldogs would get in the game. Following an interference penalty to Tim Gould, Davis Pennington scored on the power play to tie the game 1-1.

After the tying goal, the Kings started an onslaught with a pair of goals from Brett Roloson and singles from Reilly Moran and Levi Glasman to send themselves to the second intermission with a 5-1 lead.

Nolan Krogfoss scored the last marker for Powell River before things got out of hand on the ice. At 7:55 of the third, both teams took multiple penalties. Brett Pfoh scored the final goal of the game to put the Kings up 7-1. What happened the rest of the game was most noticeably more rough stuff.

A series of fights would see Gould, Caige Sterzer, Pennington and Jacob Slipec all sent to the showers early for fighting. Ryan Doolin took a minor penalty for a blow to the head and a 10-minute misconduct. Pennington and Bulldogs forward Austin Spiradakis were each suspended for the next game for a second fight after the same stoppage in play.

3-2 Win in Powell River

The game started with coincidental 10-minute misconducts to River Fahey and Ethan Schmunk. Devin Leduc opened the scoring for the Powell River Kings with 1:25 to go in the first period. Jacob Bosse tied it for the Bulldogs 8:35 into the second period. A tripping penalty to Alberni defenceman Mattias Dal Monte set up Schmunk’s second goal to give the Kings a lead. Sterzer took a minor penalty for a blow to the head and a 10-minute misconduct in the third period, which the Bulldogs successfully killed off, and a boarding penalty to Kings defenceman Ian Kern gave Alberni Valley a power play. Sterzer cashed in to send the game to overtime, where Bannister played hero and scored the winner for the Bulldogs.
