Caps goaltender Borgiel commits to Merrimack

Cowichan Valley Capitals goaltender Zach Borgiel has committed to Merrimack College for this September. The 19-year-old is the tenth member of the Capitals roster to commit to an NCAA school. Borgiel is 25-9 this season with a 2.63 goals-against-average, a .919 save percentage, and four shutouts.

Cents forward Torzsok joins Everett Silvertips

The Merritt Centennials will be without forward Hunor Torzsok for the foreseeable future after the 20-year-old joined the Everett Silvertips. He has 16 goals and three assists in 35 games with the Centennials since being acquired in a trade with the SJHL’s Estevan Bruins on November 5. Torzsok had a goal and three assists in 37 career WHL games with the Vancouver Giants from 2017-19.

Express forward Schleppe suspended two games

Coquitlam Express forward Tyler Schleppe is suspended two games for receiving a major penalty and a game misconduct for a blow to the head in Wednesday’s 9-2 win over Merritt. Schleppe will miss Coquitlam’s game tonight against Penticton and tomorrow in Trail. He is eligible to return on Wednesday at home against Surrey.

Three Stars of the Night

First Star: Surrey goaltender Reece Klassen made 21 saves for his second shutout of the season.

Second Star: Eagles forward Gabe Schovanek scored the game winning goal.

Third Star: Surrey defenceman Jimmy Darby had the insurance goal for the Eagles.

Honourable Mentions: Spruce Kings goaltender Carter Woodside made 26 saves.
