BCHL leading scorer Johnson pulls off “The Michigan” again

Trail Smoke Eaters forward Kent Johnson, who’s a top rated prospect for the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, grabbed the attention of the hockey world on Friday night. Against the West Kelowna Warriors, the University of Michigan commit scored the lacrosse-style goal tabbed “The Michigan”. It’s the second time this season Johnson has pulled off the move.

Bucks sign defenceman Forfellow for 2020-21

The Cranbrook Bucks have the first piece of their inaugural blueline with the signing of Owen Forfellow for next season. Forfellow, 17, has eight goals and nine assists in 30 games with the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds of the BC Major Midget League this season. He also has played two games with the Coquitlam Express as an affiliate.

Coaches and on-ice officials won’t shake hands

Due to concerns regarding the Coronavirus, BC Hockey has suspended pre-game handshakes between referees, linesmen and coaches until further notice.

Three Stars of the Night

First Star: Trail forward Kent Johnson had a hat trick along with one assist.

Second Star: Powell River forward Reilly Moran had a goal and three assists.

Third Star: Smoke Eaters forward Philippe Lapointe scored two goals and two assists.

Honourable Mentions: Kings forward Brett Roloson scored two goals and an assist while Powell River forward Davis Pennington added a goal and two assists. West Kelowna forward Elan Bar Lev Wise had two goals and an assist.  Merritt forward Payton Matsui tallied a goal and two assists.

Brian Wiebe

Brian's been involved in the BCHL in a variety of capacities for 17 years. From 2002 to 2012, he served in several roles around the Merritt Centennials organization, including as team president, board member, beat writer, colour commentator, webmaster, media and communications coordinator and marketing assistant. He's been writing about the BCHL since 2008 and served as colour commentator on the TSN 1040 broadcasts in 2012-13. BCHLNetwork is one of Brian's many passion projects that he balances around his full-time job as an instructor in the Radio Arts and Entertainment Program at BCIT in Burnaby.
