BCHL players featured on NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings

NHL Central Scouting released its final rankings for the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and four BCHL players made the list of North American skaters.

  • #119 – Ethan Bowen (Chilliwack Chiefs)
  • #142 – Danny Weight (Penticton Vees)
  • #168 – Kyler Kovich (Nanaimo Clippers)
  • #216 – Trey Taylor (Vernon Vipers)

Also, five players who have committed to BCHL teams since the season ended are included in the rankings.

  • #105 – Ryan McGuire (Penticton Vees)
  • #141 – David Sacco (Trail Smoke Eaters)
  • #186 – Kienan Draper (Chilliwack Chiefs)
  • #187 – Paul Dore (Salmon Arm Silverbacks)
  • #195 – Seamus Campbell (Langley Rivermen)

Of the four BCHL players ranked, Bowen, Weight, and Taylor are off to college this fall, while Kovich returns to captain the Clippers in 2020-21.

Bulldogs add forward MacDonald

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs added 19-year-old forward Jacob MacDonald for the 2020-21 season. MacDonald spent last season playing junior B with the Hamilton Kilty B’s where he served as team captain.

He put 33 goals and 44 assists in 50 Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League games in 2019-20. MacDonald also got into one game of junior A with the Oakville Blades and scored a goal.

Silverbacks ink UNO-bound Lemay

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks have added University of Nebraska-Omaha commit Joaquim Lemay for the upcoming season. The 17-year-old defenceman played 53 games with the Mount St. Charles Academy U18 team and posted two goals and 21 assists.

Lemay, who’s from St-Pierre-les-Becquets, Quebec, also skated in seven games with the Rhode Island U18 Saints and scored a goal. He was selected in the 14th round, 249th overall by the Rimouski Océanic in the 2018 QMJHL Entry Draft.

Kings sign US prep forward Teply

The Powell River Kings signed 17-year-old forward Jakub Teply for the 2020-21 season. Teply is from Stamford, Connecticut and he played last season with Brunswick School.

In 31 games at Brunswick, which is in Greenwich, CT, he scored 22 goals to go along with ten assists.

Spruce Kings grab 15-year-old Borovinskiy

The Prince George Spruce Kings added Burnaby Winter Club Midget Prep forward Maxim Borovinskiy for 2020-21. The West Vancouver product had 12 goals and 14 assists in 34 games with BWC.

Borovinskiy, who turns 16 in May, was selected in the fourth round, 81st overall by the Tri-City Americans in last year’s WHL Bantam Draft.

Longtime Express volunteers honoured

The BC Hockey League announced the final Volunteer Award winners of the 2019-20 season on Wednesday. The honour went to longtime Coquitlam Express volunteers Carl and Debby Mah.

The two have helped out with the Express in various roles since the team joined the BCHL for the 2001-02 season.

Three Stars of the Night ⏪ April 9, 2008

First Star: Penticton forward Austin Smith scored two goals as the Vees beat Nanaimo 4-0 to win the 2008 Fred Page Cup in four games.

Second Star: Vees forward Brett Hextall had a goal and an assist in the clinching victory.

Third Star: Penticton forward Michael Guzzo had assists on the Vees’ first two goals of the game, including Smith’s winner.

Honourable Mentions: Vees forward Denver Manderson put up two assists in the win.
