Smoke Eaters move Dafoe to Blackfalds of the AJHL

The Trail Smoke Eaters have traded 2002-born forward Chase Dafoe to the Blackfalds Bulldogs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in exchange for future considerations.

Dafoe, a native of Beverly, MA, served as the Smokies captain in 2020-21 and put up three goals and eight points in 20 games. He added 17 points in 55 games as a rookie in Trail during the 2019-20 season.

The son of former NHL netminder Byron Dafoe was also selected by the Omaha Lancers in the ninth round, 131st overall in this year’s US Hockey League Entry Draft.

In a news release announcing the deal from Trail to Blackfalds, Smoke Eaters general manager and head coach Tim Fragle revealed that Dafoe asked to be moved closer to home due to family reasons.
