The Trail Smoke Eaters have traded 2002-born forward Chase Dafoe to the Blackfalds Bulldogs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in exchange for future considerations.
Dafoe, a native of Beverly, MA, served as the Smokies captain in 2020-21 and put up three goals and eight points in 20 games. He added 17 points in 55 games as a rookie in Trail during the 2019-20 season.
The son of former NHL netminder Byron Dafoe was also selected by the Omaha Lancers in the ninth round, 131st overall in this year’s US Hockey League Entry Draft.

The Cowichan Valley Capitals have signed 2002-born defenseman Joe Harney of Needham, MA for the 2021-22 BC Hockey League season.
Harney spent the 2020-21 season with the Cape Cod Whalers 18U AAA and posted two goals and 11 points. He had 11 points in 28 games with St. Sebastian’s School in 2019-20.
Kings trade Milliken to Steinbach
The Powell River Kings announced on Monday that they have traded 2002-born forward Dawson Milliken to the Steinbach Pistons of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League for future considerations.
The native of Canmore, AB scored a goal and a pair of assists in 19 games with the Kings during the 2020-21 BCHL pod season. He also got into one game with West Kelowna as an affiliate in 2019-20.

The Cranbrook Bucks “Next Generation” feature was posted on the BCHL website on Tuesday and in it were the details about the addition of 2002-born defenseman Bauer Morrissey and the return of 2003-born goaltender Nathan Airey for the 2021-22 season.
Morrissey, a Leesburg, VA product, originally committed to the Bucks for last season but didn’t end up coming to Canada due to COVID-19 restrictions. Instead, he spent 2020-21 playing 18U AAA hockey with the Rochester Coalition.
In 34 games with Rochester, Morrissey nabbed 12 goals and 31 points. He also played six US High School Prep games at Millbrook School and posted five goals and a dozen points.
Cochrane, AB product Airey played 13 games for the Bucks in the Penticton pod, finishing with a 1-11-0 record, a 4.04 goals-against-average, and an .879 save percentage.

The Trail Smoke Eaters announced the addition of St. Cloud State commit and 2002-born defenseman Evan Bushy for the upcoming season.
Bushy is from Thief River Falls, MN, and spent the 2020-21 season with the Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League, putting up two goals and 15 points in 52 games.

Wenatchee Wild play-by-play broadcaster Arch Ecker continues to recover from a car accident he suffered in June and isn’t able to give a timeline as to when he’ll return to call the games.
In the meantime, Sean Zears will fill in for Ecker to start the season, calling the games remotely from his home base in Illinois.

Forward Jasper Weatherby (49 goals, 57 assists in 104 games with Wenatchee from 2016-18) has signed a two-year contract with the San Jose Sharks after being drafted by them in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL Draft.
The 23-year-old from Portland, OR spent the last three seasons with the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks, posting 47 points in 100 games.
Gellert won’t return to Asiago this season
31-year-old Alex Gellert (33 goals, 38 assists in 117 games with Westside and Cowichan Valley from 2007-09) won’t be back with Italian club Asiago for the 2021-22 Alps Hockey League season.
Gellert, who’s listed as being from Milano, ITA, had 44 goals and 160 points in 160 games with Asiago over the last four seasons. His hometown while playing in the BCHL was listed as Kelowna, BC.

Defenseman Cooper Swift (one goal, one assist in four games with Langley in 2019-20) has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey at Hobart College this September.
The 21-year-old from West Hartford, CT had four goals and 24 points in 49 games with the NAHL’s Maine Nordiques during the 2020-21 season.
