Bulldogs win two of three home games

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs played three games at home this past weekend, winning the first two against the Cowichan Valley Capitals and Victoria Grizzlies respectively. They lost the third game to the Langley Rivermen.

5-4 win over Cowichan Valley

The Bulldogs gave up the first goal to the Cowichan Valley Capitals as Zach Brooks scored at 3:01 of the first period. They tied it on a short handed goal from Mitchell Deelstra. The Caps struck back with goals from Tyrell Boucher and Brady Lynn to send the Bulldogs into the first intermission down 3-1. Primo Self added to the Capitals lead in the second period, but Deelstra scored to cut it back to a two goal lead for Cowichan after 40 minutes. The Bulldogs mounted a third period comeback on a power play goal by Tim Gould and an even strength goal from Stephen Castagna to tie the game and force overtime. Jackson Munro played hero and won it for the Bulldogs 2:35 into the extra frame.

3-2 win over Victoria

The Bulldogs drew first blood 8:46 into the hockey game with a goal from Matt Grouchy. After a scoreless second period, a power play goal from Alex DiPaolo and an even strength goal from Henri Schreifels gave the Grizzlies a 2-1 lead heading to the third period. In the final frame, an Alberni Valley goal from Ryan Doolin forced overtime and Deelstra potted the winning goal just 30 seconds into the extra time.

3-2 loss to Langley

Jonathan Stein scored the first two goals for the Rivermen in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. After a scoreless second period, a power play goal by Jake Livingstone in the third period jumped the Rivermen out to a 3-0 lead. A power play goal from Deelstra and an even strength goal from Doolin cut it to a one goal deficit, but it was too little too late and the Bulldogs fell 3-2.
