BCHL Today: Warriors add two forwards, Hopps commits to LIU, and more

 

West Kelowna adds a pair of local forwards

The West Kelowna Warriors bolstered their offensive attack for next season by adding a couple of local products. Riley Sharun, from West Kelowna, and Brennan Nelson, from Penticton, spent last season as teammates with the Okanagan Rockets in the BC U18 AAA league. Both players are 2003-born and were also affiliate players with the Warriors last year.

Sharun scored nine goals and added 11 assists in 37 games with the Rockets last season. He also suited up for one game with the Warriors, in which he was held off the scoresheet.

In 40 games played last year for the Rockets, Nelson tallied six goals and 26 assists. Appearing in two games with the Warriors last season himself, he chipped in with four assists.

Hopps commits to Long Island University

Tanner Hopps (six goals, six assists in 49 games with Victoria from 2016-18) has committed to Long Island University for 2020-21.

The 20-year-old forward from North Delta, BC spent the last two seasons with the Drayton Valley Thunder of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

He scored 33 goals and added 73 assists in 102 games over his two AJHL campaigns.

Googins commits to Norwich University

Evan Googins (six goals, 14 assists with Alberni Valley in 2018-19) has committed to Norwich University of NCAA Div. III for 2020-21.

The 21-year-old forward from Braintree, Massachusetts split last season between two teams in the North American Hockey League.

He spent 12 games with the Aberdeen Wings, notching three goals and two assists. Finishing the season with the Lone Star Brahmas, he racked up 14 goals and five assists in 32 games.

Urban signs extension with Mayhem

Zach Urban (12 goals, 54 assists in 176 games with Vernon, Powell River, Penticton, Victoria, Salmon Arm, and Langley) has signed a contract extension with the Macon Mayhem of the Southern Professional Hockey League.

The 26-year-old defenseman from Bow Valley, Alberta has four goals and 39 assists in 118 career games with the Mayhem over four seasons.
