BCHL Today: Spruce Kings lose Lee for the season, Eagles captain Schandor commits to UConn, Kowalski named POW and more

Spruce Kings forward Lee to have season ending surgery

The junior hockey career of Prince George Spruce Kings forward Chong Min Lee is over. The 20-year-old is set to have shoulder surgery, which puts him on the sidelines until after the season. Lee, who’s committed to the University of Alaska-Anchorage for Sept. 2020, had 24 points (8 goals, 16 assists) in 24 games with PG this season.

Eagles captain Schandor to fly at UConn

Surrey Eagles captain Hudson Schandor secured his post junior hockey career with a commitment to the University of Connecticut for Sept. 2020. Schandor is third in scoring on the Eagles this season with 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists) in 34 games. He is a veteran of 125 career BCHL games with Surrey and Salmon Arm.

Vernon forward Kowalski earns BCHL POW

After posting 9 points (6 goals, 3 assists) in three games last week, Vernon Vipers forward Matt Kowalski was named as BCHL Player of the Week on Monday. Kowalski’s week included a 5 point effort vs. Merritt on Friday and a 3 point game against the Centennials on Sunday.

Kowalski now has 35 points (19 goals, 16 assists) in 35 games with the Vipers this season.

Eagles blueliner O’Hearn to miss two games

Surrey Eagles defenceman Kieran O’Hearn received a 5 minute major and a game misconduct during a game against the Grizzlies in Victoria on Sunday. Because of the penalty, he is suspended two games and eligible to return to Surrey’s lineup on Dec. 22 at home against Alberni Valley.

Grizzlies forward Eddy out for two with suspension

In Sunday’s game against the Eagles, Victoria Grizzlies forward Connor Eddy was assessed a 2 minute minor and a 10 minute misconduct for a blow to the head.

Upon review after the game, the penalty was increased to a 5 minute major, which automatically includes a game misconduct. As a result, Eddy is automatically suspended 2 games per the junior A supplement.

He is eligible to return to the Grizzlies lineup on Dec. 15 in Victoria for a game against Chilliwack.

Vipers defenceman Fuller gets three games

After being initially suspended indefinitely, Vernon Vipers defenceman Landon Fuller is now out for three games. The hit occurred in Saturday’s win over Wenatchee.

Fuller, 20, missed the Vipers’ Sunday game in Merritt and will now sit for two more. He’s eligible to return when Vernon hosts Trail on Dec. 18.
