BCHL Today: Benn and the Stars stay alive and Three Stars of the Night

 

Benn and the Stars force game six in Stanley Cup Final

Jamie Benn (42 goals and 23 assists in 61 games with Victoria from 2005-07) didn’t hit the scoresheet but his Dallas Stars avoided elimination in game five of the Stanley Cup Final with a 3-2 double-overtime win against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Game six goes on Monday at 5 pm in the National Hockey League’s Edmonton bubble as the Stars try and force a seventh and deciding game in the series.

Three Stars of the Night

First Star: Penticton forward Quinn Hutson had two goals and an assist as the Vees thumped Salmon Arm 8-2.

Second Star: Clippers goaltender Jordan Naylor made 40 saves as Nanaimo edged Victoria 4-3.

Third Star: Grizzlies forward Alex DiPaolo scored a pair of goals in the loss to the Clippers.

Honourable Mentions: Vees defenseman Ben Wozney and forward Liam Malmquist each notched three assists. Penticton forward Luc Wilson had two goals. Nanaimo defenseman Carter Rose and Vees forward Matteo Costantini each had two assists.

Brian Wiebe

Brian's been involved in the BCHL in a variety of capacities for 17 years. From 2002 to 2012, he served in several roles around the Merritt Centennials organization, including as team president, board member, beat writer, colour commentator, webmaster, media and communications coordinator and marketing assistant. He's been writing about the BCHL since 2008 and served as colour commentator on the TSN 1040 broadcasts in 2012-13. BCHLNetwork is one of Brian's many passion projects that he balances around his full-time job as an instructor in the Radio Arts and Entertainment Program at BCIT in Burnaby.
