BCHL Today: Pennington and Spiridakis sit out with suspensions, former Chiefs defenceman Cholowski assigned to AHL, and more

Kings and Bulldogs each handed one game suspensions

Both Powell River and Alberni Valley were short players on Saturday after the two teams incurred a one game suspension each following Friday’s 7-1 blowout win by the Kings. Powell River defenceman Davis Pennington, who had a goal and two assists in the victory, received a one game suspension for engaging in a second fight on the same stoppage. Bulldogs forward Austin Spiridakis also got a one game suspension for the same infraction.

Both players sat out Saturday’s return match-up between the Bulldogs and Kings, which Alberni Valley won 3-2 in overtime. Spiridakis is eligible to return to the Dogs line-up on Friday in Trail while Pennington is back on Saturday when the Kings visit Nanaimo.

Former Chiefs defenceman Cholowski assigned to AHL club

Defenceman Dennis Cholowski (16 goals, 51 assists in 106 games with Chilliwack from 2014-16) has been assigned by the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins. Cholowski has two goals and six assists in 33 games with the Red Wings this season. He has added two goals and five assists in 19 games with the Griffins.

Former Grizzlies and Vipers defenceman Robertson signs in Scotland

Defenceman Sean Robertson (13 goals, 74 assists in 255 games with Victoria and Vernon from 2007-12) has signed with the Glasgow Clan of the UK-based Elite Ice Hockey League. Robertson had one goal and six assists in 31 games this season with Briancon of the Ligue Magnus, which is the top division in France.

First Star: Coquitlam forward Drew Cooper had a goal and two assists.

Second Star: Wenatchee forward Luke Ormsby potted a goal and an assist.

Third Star: Alberni Valley defenceman Jackson Munro had two assists.

Honourable Mentions: Powell River forward Ethan Schmunk, Coquitlam defenceman Wyatt Head, and Langley defenceman Will Dow-Kenny each had a goal and an assist. Coquitlam forwards Massimo Rizzo and Will Margel, Victoria forward Cody Monds, Chilliwack defenceman Jack Agnew and Kings forward Jacob Badal each notched a pair of assists.
