5 BCHL players on NHL Central Scouting’s final draft rankings

NHL Central Scouting released its final rankings on Thursday ahead of the 2021 NHL Draft and five BCHL players are listed.

Chilliwack Chiefs forward Sasha Teleguine, Victoria Grizzlies forward Ellis Rickwood, Salmon Arm Silverbacks forward Noah Serdachny, and Silverbacks defenseman Joaquim Lemay are all ranked among the top North American skaters for the draft, which is July 23-24.

Trail Smoke Eaters netminder Logan Terness is the 25th ranked North American goaltender. University of Michigan freshman Kent Johnson (61 goals and 86 assists in 112 games with Trail from 2018-20) is the third overall ranked North American skater.

Alexeev commits to Hobart College

2000-born Cowichan Valley Capitals forward Jackson Alexeev has committed to Hobart College to play NCAA Division III hockey starting in the 2021-22 season.

Alexeev, who’s from Ottawa, had three goals and nine points in 15 games with the Caps during the 2020-21 BC Hockey League pod season.

10 BCHL players selected in 2021 USHL Draft

The United States Hockey League held Phase II of its draft on Thursday and after 22 rounds, 10 players who played in the BCHL in 2020-21 were selected.

Three new recruits for the 2021-22 season and three former BCHL players were also chosen in the draft. A full recap of players with BCHL ties who were selected is here.

Fowlie signs with Ferencvárosi TC for 2021-22

Forward Cody Fowlie (one goal, one assist in three games with Vernon in 2012-13) has signed with Ferencvárosi TC of Erste Liga for the 2021-22 season.

The 28-year-old from Airdrie, AB spent the last two seasons with ASC Corona Brasov where he had 65 goals and 125 points in 61 games.

Cents looking for a trainer/equipment manager

The Merritt Centennials are on the hunt for a trainer and equipment manager for the 2021-22 season to take over from Jason Purpur, who is stepping away to focus on his practice and family.

Express add Lawson as content services coordinator

The Coquitlam Express announced the hiring of Matt Lawson as the team’s coordinator, content services for the 2021-22 season on Thursday.

Lawson, who’s a graduate of the BCIT Broadcast and Online Journalism Program, will be responsible for the Express’s media services department.

Mowrey departs Neuilly-sur-Marne

Forward Dustin Mowrey (42 goals, 50 assists in 119 games with Penticton and Victoria from 2008-10) won’t be back with Neuilly-sur-Marne of France’s FFHG, Division 1 next season.

Mowrey, a 30-year-old from Burnaby, BC, had two goals and 11 points in 11 games with Les Bisons in 2020-21.

McCoy commits to Army West Point

Forward Hunter McCoy (12 goals, 12 assists in 56 games with Powell River and Langley in 2019-20) has committed to Army West Point to play NCAA Division I hockey this September.

The 2000-born forward had 14 goals and 35 points in 53 games with the Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League this past season.
