Kings get Tuba from Surrey

The Powell River Kings have acquired 2002-born defenseman Hayden Tuba from the Surrey Eagles for future considerations.

Tuba going from the Eagles to the Kings fulfills the futures from the Feb. 24 deal that had 2001-born forward Jacob Slipec join Surrey.

The Richmond, BC product played 13 games for the Eagles during the pod season and had two assists. He made his BCHL debut in 2019-20, getting into three games with Coquitlam as an affiliate.

Warriors move Cameron to Nanaimo

The Nanaimo Clippers swung a trade that sees them acquire 2002-born defenseman Skyler Cameron from the West Kelowna Warriors for future considerations.

Cameron, who’s from Las Vegas, NV, had two goals and four points for the Warriors during the 2020-21 pod season.

Powell River reacquires LĂ©pine from Miramichi

The Powell River Kings have completed a trade with the Miramichi Timberwolves of the Maritime Hockey League that sees 2001-born defenseman Olivier Lépine return to the BCHL.

The Kings loaned the Montreal product to Miramichi on Feb. 24 and he played 11 games with the Timberwolves, finishing with a pair of assists. LĂ©pine added an assist in nine MHL playoff games.

Silverbacks send Recine back to Ottawa

The Salmon Arm Silvers have completed a trade with Ottawa of the Central Canada Hockey League that sees 2002-born forward Julian Recine return to the Jr. Senators.

The Silverbacks acquired the product of Stittsville, ON on loan from Ottawa on Jan. 22. Recine played 17 games with Salmon Arm during the BCHL pod season, finishing with two goals and five points.

Alberni Valley trades for Dukovac

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have acquired 2002-born forward Maxwell Dukovac from the Nanaimo Clippers.

Dukovac joining the Bulldogs completes the future considerations from a trade on Nov. 5, 2020 which saw 2001-born defenseman Moe Acee go to Nanaimo.

Dukovac signed a letter of intent with the Clippers in February 2020 for the 2020-21 season. However, he didn’t end up playing with the Clippers or any other team this past season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ferguson goes from Cowichan to Surrey

The Surrey Eagles have acquired 2001-born defenseman Cullen Ferguson from the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Ferguson joining the Eagles completes the future considerations from a trade on Sept. 30, 2020 which saw 2001-born forward Sean Ramsay go to Cowichan Valley.

Ferguson spent the 2020-21 season with the Aberdeen Wings of the North American Hockey League and posted six goals and 21 points in 36 games.

Kings nab UConn commit Santa Juana

The Powell River Kings have acquired 2002-born forward Brandon Santa Juana from the Surrey Eagles.

Santa Juana joining the Kings completes the future considerations from a trade on Sept. 23, 2020 which saw 2003-born forward Michael Abgrall go to Surrey.

Santa Juana was stellar during the 2020-21 BCHL season, finishing 17th in league scoring with nine goals and 22 points in 18 games. He is committed to the University of Connecticut for September 2022.

Thiessen retires from professional hockey

Goaltender Brad Thiessen (48-61-0, 3.16 goals-against-average, .914 save percentage, 10 shutouts in 127 games with Penticton, Prince George, and Merritt from 2003-06) took to social media on Thursday to announce his retirement.

Thiessen, 35, had a 4-5-5 record with a 2.74 goals-against-average, and a .901 save percentage in a dozen games with the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League this past season.

The Northeastern University alumnus played five games in the NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2011-12 season.

He is tied with two others for the most shutouts in a single season in BCHL history. Thiessen had seven during the 2005-06 season split between Prince George and Merritt.
