Bucks add Penn State-bound forward Dowiak

The Cranbook Bucks maxed out their import limit with the addition on Thursday of 2002-born forward Dane Dowiak.

Dowiak, from Wexford, Pennsylvania, played for The Gunnery prep school, Rochester Coalition U18 and Rochester Selects U18 in 2019-20, compiling 26 goals and 34 assists in 58 games.

The Penn State commit was selected in the 11th round, 155th overall at the USHL Entry Draft by Cedar Rapids earlier this spring. Previously, he was taken by Sioux Falls in the 2018 USHL Futures Draft and the London Knights in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection.

Silverbacks trade for Colgate commit Panetta

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks looked east to acquire some scoring with the addition of 2001-born forward Daniel Panetta from the Wellington Dukes of the Ontario Junior Hockey League in exchange for 2001-born defenseman Zach Gabruch and future considerations.

Panetta, whose cousin is two-time Stanley Cup champion Andrew Shaw, had 34 goals and 52 assists in 159 games with the Dukes over the last three seasons. He scored once for Wellington during the 2018 RBC Cup in Chilliwack and is committed to attend Colgate University in September 2021.

Gabruch is coming off his first season of junior A hockey in 2019-20 and he posted a goal and four assists in 56 games for the Silverbacks. The Saskatoon product went scoreless in four playoff games as well.

Cents honour Merritt marathon runner

The Merritt Centennials presented marathon runner Darius Sam with his own jersey on Thursday at radio station Q101 in Merritt. Sam completed a one-man ultra marathon last Saturday to raise funds for the local food bank.

What started out as a modest $1,000 goal has now made almost $100,000 for the food bank in Merritt.

Goaltender Buskey joins Tri-City Americans

2000-born goaltender Donovan Buskey (8-8, 3.83 goals-against-average, .874 save percentage and one shutout in 18 games for Trail from 2018-20) was claimed off waivers by the Tri-City Americans from the Regina Pats on Friday.

Buskey spent most of 2019-20 with the Pats, finishing with a 9-13-12 record along with a 4.20 GAA and a .876 SV%.

Veteran Worth commits to Long Island University

1999-born forward Garrett Worth (two goals, five assists in 18 games with Vernon, Prince George, and West Kelowna in 2018-19) has committed to Long Island University for this fall.

Worth, who’s from Duluth, Minnesota, spent nine games of the 2019-20 season with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL and put up two assists. In 28 games with the Minnesota Wilderness of the NAHL, he scored 14 goals and 11 assists.
