Kings netminder Krall commits to UAH

Powell River Kings 1999-born goaltender Derek Krall has committed to the University of Alabama-Huntsville for this fall.

Krall, who’s from Nanaimo, finished his two year BCHL career with a 32-15-0 record along with a 2.65 goals-against-average, a .913 save percentage, and three shutouts. He played in the BCHL with the Kings, Penticton and Nanaimo.

Express pick up forward Bazarin

The Coquitlam Express has traded for the Canadian Junior Hockey League rights to 2001-born forward Daniel Bazarin from the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League for future considerations.

The Roseneath, Ontario product started 2019-20 with the Thunderbirds and put up five goals and four assists in 15 games. He then joined the National Collegiate Development Conference’s New Jersey Rockets and posted two goals and an assist in a dozen games.

Guenther signs extension in France

Defenseman Riley Guenther (eight goals, 30 assists in 96 games with Vernon from 2013-15) has signed a one year contract extension with Angers of Ligue Magnus, which is the top division of men’s hockey in France.

The 25-year-old had two goals and three assists in 38 games with Angers in 2019-20 after a four year U Sports career with the University of British Columbia.

Gaernter named assistant GM and head coach of junior B Nanaimo

Former Alberni Valley Bulldogs and Victoria Grizzlies goaltending coach James Gaertner is the new assistant general manager and head coach of the junior B Nanaimo Buccaneers of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League.

Gaertner spent the majority of the 2019-20 season as the head coach of the VIJHL’s Kerry Park Islanders.
