Schoenfeld commits to Milwaukee School of Engineering

Powell River Kings 2002-born defender Sam Schoenfeld has committed to the Milwaukee School of Engineering for the 2023-24 season. MSOE is an NCAA Division III school and the campus is located in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Schoenfeld, who is from Calgary, closed out his junior career with the Kings this past season, where he scored three goals and 10 points in 36 regular season games. He also had one goal in two BCHL playoff contests earlier this spring.

Tremblay commits to Albertus Magnus

Cranbrook Bucks 2002-born forward Jérémy Tremblay has committed to playing NCAA Division III hockey at Albertus Magnus College. The school is located in New Haven, Connecticut.

Tremblay, who is from Orford, Que., closed out his junior hockey career in 2022-23, playing 19 games with the CCHL’s Hawkesbury Hawks, where he scored nine goals and 20 points in 19 games. He also played 29 games with the Bucks, earning six goals and four assists. Tremblay played two playoff games for the Bucks as well but didn’t find the scoresheet.

Erickson signs with Rock Springs

2003-born Merritt Centennials affiliate goaltender Merik Erickson has signed with the National Collegiate Development Conference’s Rock Springs Grizzlies for 2023-24. The team is located in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Erickson was 0-1 with a 5.24 goals-against average and an .876 save percentage in three appearances with the Cents this past season.

Erickson, who hails from Burnaby, B.C., played 21 regular season games with the Pacific Junior Hockey League’s Delta Ice Hawks in 2022-23. He had a 17-2-0 record, a 2.71 goals-against average, a .905 save percentage, and three shutouts with the Ice Hawks. In 10 PJHL playoff contests, he was 7-2-1, with a 2.89 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage.

Hanna joins Starbulls Rosenheim

29-year-old defender Shane Hanna (15 goals, 59 assists in 108 games with Penticton and Salmon Arm from 2010-13) has joined the Starbulls Rosenheim of Germany’s Oberliga for the 2023-24 season. It will be his seventh season of professional hockey. Oberliga is the third tier of hockey in Germany.

Hanna, who is from New Westminster, B.C., scored 10 goals and added 20 assists in 49 regular season games with HKM Zvolen of Tipos Extraliga in 2022-23. He then contributed two goals and six points in 14 playoff outings. Tipos Extraliga is the top league in Slovakia.

McClure gets an extension from HC Bolzano

29-year-old forward Brad McClure (69 goals, 57 assists in 111 games with Penticton from 2012-14) has re-signed with Italian club HC Bolzano of the ICE Hockey League for the 2023-24 season.

McClure, who hails from Stratford, Ont., scored 18 goals and 32 points in his first season with Bolzano. He then added six goals and two assists in 19 playoff games.

Hamelin’s first professional team is in France

26-year-old defender Derek Hamelin (one goal, two assists in seven games with Langley in 2017-18) has signed his first professional contract, opting to join the Remparts de Tours in FFHG, Division 1, which is the second level of hockey in France.

Hamelin, who hails from Mercier, Que., finished out his collegiate career in 2022-23 with the University of Alaska-Anchorage after spending the previous four seasons at Canisius College. In 26 NCAA games with the Seawolves this past season, he recorded 10 assists.

Matta transfers from WMU to RPI

20-year-old defender Lucas Matta (nine goals, 17 assists in 52 games with Salmon Arm from 2020-22) announced that he has transferred to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the 2023-24 season. He transferred after playing one season at Western Michigan University.

Matta, who is from Kleinburg, Ont., played six games for WMU in 2022-23 and didn’t register any points. RPI is located in Troy, New York.

Lundy commits to Arizona State University

21-year-old defender Lucas Lundy (three goals, four assists in 60 games with Coquitlam from 2020-22) has committed to Arizona State University of the American Collegiate Hockey Association for the 2023-24 season. ASU is located in Tempe, Arizona.

Lundy, who is from Delta, B.C, played 41 games with the San Diego Sabres of USPHL Premier during the 2022-23 season. He scored 15 times and added 31 assists, and chipped in a goal and an assist in a pair of USPHL Premier playoff games.
