Legault commits to Quinnipiac University
West Kelowna Warriors defender Charles Alexis Legault has committed to Quinnipiac University to start his NCAA career this September.
The 2003-born native of Pierrefonds, QC had six goals and 18 points in 36 games with the Warriors this past season. He was previously committed to Boston University.
Hirose signs an extension with Detroit
Forward Taro Hirose (33 goals, 88 assists in 116 games with Salmon Arm from 2014-16) has signed a two-year contract extension with the Detroit Red Wings. He was set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
The 25-year-old Hirose, from Winnipeg, MB, played in 15 NHL games with the Red Wings this season and registered a goal and three assists. Through 59 games with the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins in 2021-22, he had 15 goals and 53 points.
Betker inks a deal with Fehérvár for 2022-23
Defender Ben Betker (five goals, 13 assists in 59 games with Westside in 2011-12) has signed with Fehérvár AV19 of the ICE Hockey League in Austria.
The 27-year-old from Cranbrook, BC spent the 2021-22 season with HC Innsbruck of the ICEHL, posting three goals and 13 points in 49 games.
Gropp signs with HKM Zvolen for next season
Forward Ryan Gropp (16 goals, 24 assists in 62 games with Penticton from 2011-13) has signed a deal with HKM Zvolen of Slovakia’s Tipos Extraliga for 2022-23.
This past season, the 25-year-old Kamloopsian had 12 goals and 27 points in 43 games with IF Björklöven of HockeyAllsvenskann, the second tier of pro hockey in Sweden.
Marshall takes his game to Norway for 2022-23
Goaltender Linden Marshall (20-15-1, 3.47 goals-against average, .899 save percentage, two shutouts in 49 games with Trail from 2016-17) will play in Fjordkraft-ligaen, the top league in Norway, in 2022-23.
The 23-year-old from Victoria, BC played the bulk of 2021-22 in the NCAA with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, posting a 9-13-3 record, an .895 save percentage, and a 2.53 goals-against average in 26 games.
He also made one appearance with Greenville of the ECHL and three games in the AHL with Cleveland. He was 1-1 with a 2.57 goals-against average, a .924 save percentage, and one shutout with the Monsters.
