BCHL Bulletin: Scheel called up from Texas to Dallas, Nash recalled to Tampa Bay from Syracuse, and more!

Stars call up Scheel from Texas

Goaltender Adam Scheel (29-12-0, 2.08 goals-against average, .927 save percentage, three shutouts in 45 games with Penticton in 2017-18) was recalled by the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League from the American Hockey League’s Texas Stars on Saturday.

The 23-year-old product of Lakewood, OH was 11-10-11, with a 2.91 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage in 31 games with Texas this season. He added a 3-3 record with a 2.37 goals-against average, and a .917 save percentage in six ECHL games with the Idaho Steelheads.

Hirose reassigned from Detroit to Grand Rapids

With Detroit’s NHL season ending on Friday, the Red Wings assigned forward Taro Hirose (33 goals, 88 assists in 116 games with Salmon Arm from 2014-16) to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Hirose, from Winnipeg, MB, played in 15 NHL games this season with the Red Wings and registered a goal and three assists. Through 59 games with the Griffins in 2021-22, Hirose had 15 goals and 53 points.

Nash brought up from Syracuse to Tampa Bay

The two-time Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning recalled veteran forward Riley Nash (38 goals, 46 assists in 56 games with Salmon Arm in 2006-07) from the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch on Saturday.

Nash, a 32-year-old from Consort, AB, had four assists in 48 games with the Lightning, Arizona Coyotes, and Winnipeg Jets this season, his 11th in the NHL. He also posted 10 goals amd 18 points in 17 AHL games with the Crunch.

Brian's been involved in the BCHL in a variety of capacities for 17 years. From 2002 to 2012, he served in several roles around the Merritt Centennials organization, including as team president, board member, beat writer, colour commentator, webmaster, media and communications coordinator and marketing assistant. He's been writing about the BCHL since 2008 and served as colour commentator on the TSN 1040 broadcasts in 2012-13. BCHLNetwork is one of Brian's many passion projects that he balances around his full-time job as an instructor in the Radio Arts and Entertainment Program at BCIT in Burnaby.
