Eagles flip Gourgon to Merritt for Hungle
A day after the announcement that Surrey acquired 2003-born forward Bill Gourgon from the Carleton Place Canadians of the Central Canada Hockey League for 2004-born forward Drew Dornan and future considerations, the Eagles flipped him to the Merritt Centennials for 2004-born forward Jacksenn Hungle.
Hungle, who hails from Victoria, BC, posted five goals and 14 points in 35 games as a sophomore with the Centennials in 2021-22.
Gourgon, a native of Carp, ON, finished this past season with a dozen goals and 37 points in 38 games with the Canadians.
May and Lee sign with West Kelowna for 2022-23
West Kelowna unveiled a pair of commitments on Tuesday, with 2003-born defender Bobby May and 2005-born forward Matthew Lee joining the Warriors this fall.
May is from Davidson, NC, and split 2021-22 between Kimball Union Academy and GBL Bruins 18U AAA. In 53 games, he finished with five goals and 31 points.
Lee spent this past season with Bishop Kearney Selects 16U AAA. The St. Catharines, ON product posted an eye-popping 60 goals and 116 points in 82 games.
Spruce Kings send Reeves to West Kelowna
The Prince George Spruce Kings have traded the BCHL rights to 2002-born defender Aiden Reeves to the West Kelowna Warriors for future considerations.
Reeves is a three-season veteran in the Western Hockey League with his hometown Prince George Cougars. In 62 career WHL games, he’s posted three assists.
He played seven games in the BCHL with the Spruce Kings during the 2020-21 pod season but didn’t register any points.
Johnson turns pro with Les Bisons de Neuilly sur Marne
Port Moody, BC product Kyle Johnson (42 goals, 65 assists in 151 games with Prince George from 2015-18) has signed his first professional hockey contract. it’s with Neuilly-sur-Marne of FFHG, Division 1, which is the second tier of pro hockey in France.
The 24-year-old spent the last four seasons in the NCAA with Yale University and compiled two goals and four points in 51 games at the Ivy League school.
van de Leest commits to Dalhousie University
21-year-old defender Jackson van de Leest (no points in five games with Penticton in 2016-17) has committed to Dalhousie University to play U SPORTS hockey starting in the 2022-23 season.
van de Leest, who is from Kelowna, BC, finished out his Western Hockey League career with Red Deer in 2021-22. In 60 combined games with the Rebels and Calgary Hitmen this past season, he tallied a goal and 21 points.
