Bongo back in Surrey in 2022-23
The Surrey Eagles announced on Friday that 2003-born forward Jake Bongo will return to the BC Hockey League squad for the 2022-23 season.
Bongo, from Ridgefield, CT, was originally set to attend Sacred Heart University this September. He led the Eagles in scoring in 2021-22 with 24 goals and 24 assists in 53 games.
Waldie leaves the Spruce Kings for the Cougars
Prince George Spruce Kings communications manager and play-by-play broadcaster Cole Waldie has left the team to join the Western Hockey League’s Prince George Cougars as their play-by-play broadcaster and director of communications and public relations.
Waldie, an alumnus of the BCIT Radio Arts and Entertainment program, spent the last three seasons with the Spruce Kings. The 25-year-old from Prince George, BC has seven years of experience doing play-by-play in the BCHL and BC Elite Hockey League.
Pfeil moves from McGill to St. FX
After being with McGill University this past season, goaltender Lucas Pfeil (6-7-2, 3.71 goals-against average, .909 save percentage in 16 games with Cowichan Valley in 2020-21) has transferred to St. Francis Xavier University starting this September.
Pfeil, a 22-year-old from Owen Sound, ON, committed to McGill in July 2021. He made two appearances for the Redbirds in 2021-22, going 1-1 and allowing four goals on 41 shots in 89 minutes and 43 seconds of action.
DiMurro transfers from RIT to Geneseo
Suffern, NY native Diarmad DiMurro (10 goals, 63 assists in 115 games with Trail from 2018-20) has transferred from the Rochester Insitute of Technology to State University of New York College at Geneseo for this September.
The 23-year-old defender notched two goals and four points in 30 NCAA games with RIT over the last two seasons. He’ll play NCAA Division III hockey with the Ice Knights starting in 2022-23.
Kostelecky switches commitment from ASU to LIU
20-year-old forward Tyler Kostelecky (four goals, three assists in 15 games with Alberni Valley in 2019-20) has committed to Long Island University to play NCAA Division I hockey this September.
He finished 2021-22 with 10 goals and 21 points in 51 games with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the US Hockey League. The Maple Grove, MN product was previously committed to Arizona State University.
Krueger retires from Lausanne HC to become hockey operations manager
Justin Krueger (seven goals, 15 assists in 55 games with Penticton in 2005-06) has retired as a player and signed with Lausanne HC of Switzerland’s National League to be the club’s hockey operations manager.
The 35-year-old from Düsseldorf, GER spent the last nine seasons in the NL, compiling 12 goals and 58 points in 394 games split between SC Bern and Lausanne.
Holick steps down from the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers
Kamloops Blazers associate coach Mark Holick stepped down on Friday after one year in the position due to personal reasons.
The 53-year-old from Penticton, BC was the general manager and head coach of the Vernon Vipers in 2006-07 and Surrey Eagles from 1997-2002.
