Cents bring Erickson back to their forward ranks
The Merritt Centennials have brought back 2002-born forward Walker Erickson from the Nanaimo Clippers for future considerations. He’s a veteran of 94 BC Hockey League games split between Nanaimo, Merritt, and Trail.
The Surrey, BC product was traded by the Cents to the Clippers on Nov. 6 for forward Luke Lavery after posting two goals and an assist in eight games for Merritt.
He finished the season tallying a goal and seven points in 32 games with Nanaimo after the deal. Erickson added two assists in nine playoff games for the Clippers.
Savage gains his first junior hockey coaching gig
26-year-old Paul Savage (three goals, five assists in 53 games with Surrey and Alberni Valley split between 2013-14 and 2016-17) has been hired by the Delta Ice Hawks of the Pacific Junior Hockey League as an assistant coach.
The native of Surrey, BC spent four of the last five seasons as an assistant coach for the Semiahmoo Minor Hockey Association. He was with the U15 Tier 1 team from 2019-21 and the U18 Tier 1 squad during the 2018-19 season.
Georgiev commits to York University
Toronto, ON product Klim Georgiev (no points in two games with Cowichan Valley in 2021-22) has committed to playing U SPORTS hockey at York University this September.
The 2001-born forward was traded by the Capitals to the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League on Oct. 22. He notched three goals and 17 points in 31 games with the Kings.
He added four goals and six points in a dozen MJHL playoff games for Dauphin.
McBride goes from Idaho to Italy
Forward Shawn McBride (13 goals, 37 assists in 127 games for Victoria from 2011-15) has signed a contract with Sterzing/Vipiteno of the Alps Hockey League for 2022-23.
McBride, who’s from Victoria, BC, spent 2021-22 with ECHL Idaho this past season. The 26-year-old ended up with a dozen goals and 35 points in 69 nice games with the Steelheads.
