BCHL Bulletin: McDonald heads to American International College, Cents bring in two Coyotes as affiliates, and more!

McDonald commits to American International College

2001-born forward Casey McDonald of the Penticton Vees has committed to American International College to play NCAA hockey in 2022-23.

The native of Kindersley, SK has nine goals and 17 points in 21 games with the Vees this season. It’s his first in the BCHL after spending the previous two seasons with Fargo of the US Hockey League.

Cents add Floris and Lockhart as affiliate players

The Merritt Centennials have signed defensemen Ethan Floris and Charlie Lockhart as affiliate players for the 2021-22 BC Hockey League season. Both are full-time players with the Osoyoos Coyotes of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.

Floris, a 2002-born native of Vanderhoof, BC, is an alternate captain for the Coyotes. He has four goals and 12 points in 22 games for Osoyoos this season.

Lockhart hails from Christina Lake, BC, and the 2004-born blueliner has six assists in 16 games with the Coyotes this season.

Marotte called up to San Diego of the American Hockey League

26-year-old Francis Marotte (1-5-0, 4.86 goals-against average, .864 save percentage in 10 games with Cowichan Valley in 2013-14) was called up by the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League from the Allen Americans of the ECHL on Monday.

Marotte, who’s from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC, is 3-4-2 with a 3.98 goals-against average and an .874 save percentage in nine games with the Americans this season.

Filbrandt traded in the ECHL from Idaho to Worcester

Defenseman Clint Filbrandt (two goals, seven assists in 31 games with Penticton and Cowichan Valley in 2013-14) was acquired by the Worcester Railers from the Idaho Steelheads for future considerations in an ECHL trade on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old from Calgary, AB, had a goal in 10 games with the Steelheads this season after signing a contract with them in October.

Brian's been involved in the BCHL in a variety of capacities for 17 years. From 2002 to 2012, he served in several roles around the Merritt Centennials organization, including as team president, board member, beat writer, colour commentator, webmaster, media and communications coordinator and marketing assistant. He's been writing about the BCHL since 2008 and served as colour commentator on the TSN 1040 broadcasts in 2012-13. BCHLNetwork is one of Brian's many passion projects that he balances around his full-time job as an instructor in the Radio Arts and Entertainment Program at BCIT in Burnaby.
