Clippers add blueline depth with Parekh

The Nanaimo Clippers bolstered their blueline group on Wednesday with the addition of 2003-born Ida Parekh out of Toronto. Parekh is committed to Bemidji State University to start his NCAA Division I career in September 2024.

Parekh finished second among all defenders in Ontario Junior Hockey League scoring in 2022-23 with 13 goals and 61 points in 54 games split between the North York Rangers and Georgetown Raiders. He added a goal and four assists in six OJHL playoff games for the Raiders.

Silverbacks bring back Redmond for the upcoming season

27-year-old Angus Redmond (59-61-0, 2.94 goals-against average, .906 save percentage, and eight shutouts with Salmon Arm from 2012-16) has signed an extension with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks to return as their goaltender coach for the upcoming 2023-24 B.C. Hockey League season.

Redmond, from Langley, BC, retired at the end of the 2021-22 season after a five-year professional career that saw him play 91 games in the ECHL with eight different teams and five games in the American Hockey League with San Diego and Toronto.

Priskie heads to Washington to join the Caps

27-year-old defender Chase Priskie (six goals, 14 assists in 57 games with Salmon Arm in 2014-15) has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Washington Capitals as an unrestricted free agent.

Priskie, from Pembroke Pines, Florida, had 11 goals and 22 points in 58 games split between Rochester and San Diego of the AHL this past season and no points. He was originally selected 177th overall in the sixth round of the 2016 Nationa Hockey League Draft by Washington.

Coghlan returns to Carolina with a one-year pact

The Carolina Hurricanes and defender Dylan Coghlan (no points in two games with Nanaimo in 2013-14) agreed to a one-year contract for 2023-24 worth $850,000. The 25-year-old from Duncan, B.C. split the 2022-23 season between the NHL and AHL.

Coghlan had three assists in 17 games at the NHL level with the Hurricanes. He also chipped in with two goals and an assist in five American Hockey League games with the Chicago Wolves before his season was cut short due to an injury.

Update: Haymes and Walton attend Toronto’s development camp

The Toronto Maple Leafs unveiled their 2023 development camp roster and schedule last Friday, and two former BCHL players are among those participating.

19-year-old forward Luke Haymes (22 goals, 27 assists in 52 games with Cowichan Valley in 2021-22), from Ottawa, posted 11 goals and 16 points in 34 NCAA games as a rookie at Dartmouth College this past season.

23-year-old defender Pito Walton (eight goals, 28 assists in 58 games with Coquitlam in 2018-19) has played the last four NCAA seasons at Princeton University, notching 12 goals and 38 points in 88 games.

Update: Draper and Moore head to camp with Detroit

The Detroit Red Wings announced their development camp details on Saturday and 21-year-old forward Kienan Draper (23 goals, 27 assists in 50 games with Chilliwack in 2021-22) and 22-year-old defender Cooper Moore (12 goals, 21 assists in 55 games with Chilliwack in 2019-20) are among the attendees.

Draper, who is from Royal Oak, Michigan, played 23 games as a rookie in the NCAA this past season at the University of Michigan. Draper was selected 187th overall in the seventh round of the 2020 NHL Draft by the Red Wings.

Moore, who hails from Greenwich, Connecticut, scored seven goals and 27 points in 87 NCAA games at the University of North Dakota over the last three seasons. He has transferred to Quinnipiac University for the upcoming season.

Update: Felton hits the ice at Canucks development camp

23-year-old defender Christian Felton (five goals, 10 assists in 50 games with Vernon in 2019-20) is on the Vancouver Canucks development camp roster.

Felton, who is from Medina, Ohio, played his junior season with Merrimack College in 2022-23, earning two goals and six points. In 72 career NCAA games over the last three seasons split between Merrimack and Bentley University, Felton has four goals and 10 points.

Conway leaves Belfast for Trencin

28-year-old forward Scott Conway (56 goals, 60 assists in 56 games with Penticton in 2015-16) has signed with HK Dukla Trencin of Tipos Extraliga for the 2023-24 season. Tipos Extraliga is the top professional league in Slovakia.

The product of Basingstoke, Great Britain, had 40 goals and 90 points in 51 games with the Belfast Giants of the United Kingdom’s Elite Ice Hockey League last season. Conway added four points in four EIHL playoff games.

Roach joins EHC Freiburg for 2023-24

Defender Alex Roach (no points in four games with Quesnel in 2009-10) has signed a contract with EHC Freiburg of Germany’s DEL2 for the upcoming season.

The 30-year-old from Schongau, Germany had three goals and eight points in 38 games with Kölner Haie of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga in 2022-23. It was his sixth season playing pro hockey in Germany.

Gendron jumps from Greenville to Belfast

Oakville, Ont. product Miles Gendron (five goals, 12 assists in 54 games with Penticton in 2014-15) has signed with Belfast of the EIHL for the 2023-24 season.

The 25-year-old defender had two goals and one assist in 19 games with the ECHL’s Greenville Swamp Rabbits in 2022-23. He also got into 19 games with Storhamar in Norway’s Eliteserien and finished with three goals and eight points.
