Bulldogs add Finn to their roster

2003-born defender Matias Myllykoski has committed to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs for the 2023-24 B.C. Hockey League season.

Myllykoski, who hails from Oulu, Finland, played 44 games this past season with Kiekko-Espoo U20 of the U20 SM-sarja league, which is the top tier of junior hockey in Finland. He scored five goals and added 14 assists. Oulu is located in the northern Finland region of North Ostrobothina.

Silverbacks add two commitments

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks announced the signing of 2006-born forward Nicholas Wellenreiter and 2006-born defender Aidan Souligny.

Wellenreiter, who hails from Dundas, Ont., played 71 games with the Bishop Kearney Selects 16U AAA team in 2022-23, earning 45 goals and 60 assists. He is committed to playing NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Maine for the 2024-25 season.

Souligny, who is from Navan, Ont., played 12 games for the Central Canada Hockey League’s Navan Grads last season, where he earned two points. He also played 29 NorthEast Pack Hockey League games for the New Jersey Rockets U16 AAA team, scoring four goals and 15 points.

Rivermen sign four new recruits

Tuesday was a busy day for the Langley Rivermen as they announced four players have committed to play for the team in 2023-24, including 2003-born forward Oskar Komarov, 2003-born defender Grayden Daul, 2006-born forward Mac Richardson, and 2005-born forward Ryder McIntosh.

Komarov, who hails from Uusikaarlepyy, Finland, scored 16 goals and 33 points in 33 regular-season games with HIFK U20, of the U20 SM-sarja. He also played in three playoff games for HIFK. The upcoming season will be his first of record playing in North America.

Daul, who calls Chicago, Illinois home, played 16 games for the United States Hockey League’s Sioux City Musketeers, earning one point. He also played 16 games with the North American Hockey League’s Janesville Jets, scoring twice and adding one assist. He is committed to the University of Wisconsin for the 2023-24 season.

Richardson, who is from New Westminster, B.C., played 36 regular-season games with the Valley West Giants U18 AAA team in the B.C. Elite Hockey League, scoring 23 goals and 46 points. In five BCEHL playoff games, he added three goals and four assists. He saw action in two regular-season games with Langley as an affiliate player and also got into five playoff games.

McIntosh, who hails from Langley, B.C., posted 15 goals and 45 points in 31 games with the Burnaby Winter Club U18 Prep team in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League. He added three assists in three CSSHL playoff contests. McIntosh was part of the BWC U18 team that won the CSSHL U18 championship in 2022.

Two with BCHL ties attend Kings development camp

21-year-old defender Braden Doyle (three goals, 24 assists in 27 games with Penticton in 2021-22) and 24-year-old defender Jacob Modry (five goals, 42 assists in 150 games with Wenatchee from 2016-19) have been invited to the Los Angeles Kings development camp that begins on Thursday.

Doyle, who is from Lynnfield, Massachusetts, played 23 NCAA Division I games for Northeastern University in Boston in 2022-23, where he tallied one goal and seven assists.

Modry, who hails from El Segundo, California, played 28 games with NCAA Division III SUNY-Plattsburgh, where he earned four goals and 23 points. The school is located in Plattsburgh, New York. He also played three games with the ECHL’s Savannah Ghost Pirates and posted one point.

Flames invite two with BCHL ties to development camp

The Calgary Flames announced their development camp details on Tuesday and their roster included two players with BCHL ties. 2003-born defender Tyson Galloway (two goals, three assists in 27 games with Merritt from 2019-20) and Cade Littler (49 goals, 64 assists in 103 games with Wenatchee from 2019-20 and 2021-23) were those invitees.

Galloway, who is from Kamloops, B.C., played 64 regular-season games with the Western Hockey League’s Calgary Hitmen this past season, earning three goals and 26 assists. He also had one assist in five WHL playoff contests. Galloway was selected 145th overall in the fifth round of the 2021 NHL Draft by the St. Louis Blues.

Littler, who hails from East Wenatchee, Washington, scored 29 goals and 68 points in 51 regular season games with the Wenatchee Wild last season. He also added four goals and two assists in 10 BCHL playoff games. He then joined the USHL’s Cedar Rapids RoughRiders for four playoff games, earning one point. He is committed to Cedar Rapids for 2023-24 and the University of North Dakota for the 2024-25 season.

Holtz also at Sharks development camp

24-year-old defender Steve Holtz (eight goals, 19 assists in 51 games with Penticton from 2019-20) is on the San Jose Sharks development camp roster.

Holtz, who is from White Lake, Michigan, played his junior season with the University of Michigan in 2022-23, earning one goal and six assists. In 36 career NCAA games over the last three seasons with the Wolverines, Holtz has a goal and 12 points.

Sandelin also at Avalanche development camp

24-year-old forward Ryan Sandelin (39 goals, 33 assists in 106 games with Penticton from 2017-19) was also named to the Colorado Avalanche development camp that started on Sunday.

Sandelin, a native of Hermantown, Minnesota, scored 14 goals and added 15 assists in 38 games with NCAA Division I Minnesota State University-Mankato in 2022-23. He also played in four games with the American Hockey League’s Colorado Eagles where he scored one goal. Sanelin appeared in one playoff game for the Eagles as well.
