Capitals pick up Ramsay from Surrey

The Cowichan Valley Capitals acquired 2001-born forward Sean Ramsay from the Surrey Eagles on Wednesday in exchange for future considerations.

Ramsay, who’s from Victoria, had 17 points in 44 games with the Eagles as a rookie last season. He put up an eye-popping 96 points in 2018-19 with Pacific Coast Academy Prep of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League.

Bucks make first official trade

The Cranbrook Bucks made their first-ever trade of record with the acquisition of 2000-born forward Michael Hagen from the Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in exchange for 2002-forward Cale Sanders.

Hagen put up 22 points in 50 games with the Oilers in 2019-20. He played six games in the BCHL as an affiliate player for Trail in 2018-19.

The Calgary product saw his junior B playing rights change hands when he was selected by the Columbia Valley Rockies from the Beaver Valley Nitehawks in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s dispersal draft last month.

Sanders, who is from Claresholm, Alberta, has never played junior A hockey. He went from Edge School U18 Prep in the CSSHL to playing 34 games with Regina in the Western Hockey League as a 17-year-old last season. Sanders had no points and was -12 with the Pats.

Smokies bring in NAHL veteran Hunter

The Trail Smoke Eaters have added 2002-born forward Brady Hunter ahead of the 2020-21 season. Hunter spent 2019-20 in the North American Hockey League with the Northeast Generals and Minnesota Wilderness.

The Enfield, Nova Scotia product finished with 11 points in 34 NAHL games. No doubt the continued closure of the US-Canada border affected the opportunity of returning to the Generals for this season.

Clippers nab another netminder

The Nanaimo Clippers swung a trade with the Brantford 99ers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League to get 2002-born goaltender Chase Grsic of Stoney Creek, Ontario, for future considerations.

Grsic played junior B hockey in 2019-20 and posted a 9-13-2 record with a 3.20 goals-against-average a .911 save percentage, and two shutouts in 26 games with Thorold of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Eagles sign La Cara for 2020-21 season

The Surrey Eagles signed another player from the Canadian Sport School Hockey League by bringing in 2003-born forward Rocco La Cara of the Burnaby Winter Club U18 Prep team.

La Cara, a Vancouver product, had 33 points in 34 games this past season. He also added one goal in two playoff games.

The Cranbrook Bucks announced the addition of 2002-born forward Sheldon Pryce on Tuesday. Pryce is from Seaforth, Ontario, and was listed on the Bucks roster earlier last month.

He had 17 goals and 27 assists in 50 junior B games with the GOJHL’s Stratford Warriors in 2019-20.

Spruce Kings honour Staley on their helmets

The Prince George Spruce Kings will pay tribute to their former captain Chad Staley with a sticker on their helmets featuring his initials embedded in the team’s crown logo.

Staley, 25, died suddenly in March. He had 60 goals and 87 assists in 164 games with the Spruce Kings from 2012 to 2015.

Svejkovsky earns US national team invite

Forward Lukas Svejkovsky (five goals, six assists in 16 games with Wenatchee in 2017-18) is among the 39 players who are invited to USA Hockey’s 2021 national junior team evaluation camp.

The 18-year-old from Point Roberts, Washington, had 38 points in 52 Western Hockey League games with Medicine Hat and Vancouver last season. The evaluation camp runs from October 8-13 in Plymouth, Michigan.

Cooley signs deal with Nashville

Goaltender Devin Cooley (7-3-0, 2.45 GAA, .887 SV%, three shutouts in 14 games with Wenatchee in 2016-17) turned pro and signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Nashville Predators.

The 23-year-old from Los Gatos, California spent the last three seasons at the University of Denver. He finishes his NCAA career with a 15-8-5 record, a 1.93 GAA, a .927 SV% and six shutouts.
