The Cowichan Valley Capitals are on the hunt for a new boss following the resignation of general manager and head coach Geoff Grimwood on Thursday.
Grimwood was hired and signed a multi-year contract with the Capitals in May. According to a news release posted on the team’s website, he resigned due to ethical and philosophical differences with Caps ownership.
“I have certain values that guide how I coach. I no longer felt comfortable continuing in this situation. I truly enjoyed my time with the players, staff, Team Governor Shari Paterson, and wish the Cowichan Valley Capitals and its supporters all the best.”
The Capitals have named Brian Passmore as interim GM and head coach. He worked with Cowichan Valley in hockey development last season.

The Surrey Eagles announced the signing of 2004-born defenseman Tate Taylor for the upcoming season.
The Richmond, BC product, whose brother Trey plays for the Vernon Vipers, had 18 points in 34 games in 2019-20 with the Delta Hockey Academy Elite 15s of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League.

The Cowichan Valley Capitals swung a deal with Penticton Vees to acquire 2002-born defenseman Tanner Komzak for future considerations.
Komzak is from North Vancouver and had four points in 38 games as a rookie with the Langley Rivermen last season. He was acquired by the Vees back in August.

Although a number of BC Hockey League teams have in training camp since the second week of September, the Prince George Spruce Kings officially opened things up on Thursday.
The Spruce Kings are coming off a season where they went 18-32-8 and were swept in the first round of the playoffs by Trail.

The West Kelowna Warriors shared on Thursday that ShawTV will broadcast 13 games of the Okanagan Cup starting this Saturday. The games will be broadcast on TV for Shaw subscribers in the Okanagan region.

Forward Marcus Vela (31 goals, 37 assists in 104 games with Langley from 2013-15) has signed a contract extension with the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL for the 2020-21 season.
The 23-year-old had 25 points in 49 games with the Walleye this past season.

Forward Mike Hammond (82 goals, 117 assists in 159 games with Victoria, Cowichan Valley, and Salmon Arm from 2007-11) inked a contract with the Odense Bulldogs in Denmark for the upcoming season.
Hammond, 30, potted 67 points in 48 games with Lausitzer Füchse of the German second league in 2019-20.

2001-born forward Josh Zinger (two goals, one assist in 13 games with Salmon Arm in 2019-20) has been traded in the Alberta Junior Hockey League from the Fort McMurray Oil Barons to the Olds Grizzlys for future considerations.
Zinger posted 13 points in 33 games with the Oil Barons after being acquired from the Silverbacks last November.
