BCHL Bulletin: Eagles land BCEHL scoring champion, Bleicher jumps to DEL, and more

The Surrey Eagles locked up a top local talent for next season, signing 2007-born forward Kaeden Kalkat out of New Westminster, BC. The dynamic winger dominated the BC Elite Hockey League U18 last season with the Vancouver North East Chiefs and earned the league scoring title. He arrives in Surrey after posting 27 goals and 37 assists for 64 points in 32 games.
The Straubing Tigers of the top-tier German Elite League recruited defensive depth directly from the BCHL’s Coastal West Division. The 2007-born defender Max Bleicher from Füssen, Germany, signed with the professional club following a standout year in the BCHL. He logged six goals and 24 assists for 30 points in 47 games for the Powell River Kings during the 2025-26 season. Bleicher spent the previous season in the Ontario Hockey League with the Owen Sound Attack.
The Blue Devils Weiden tapped into the BCHL to bolster their roster in the DEL2 professional German league. 2006-born forward Maximilian Brunner from Bogen, Germany, has left the Chilliwack Chiefs to join the pro ranks. He recorded six goals and nine assists for 15 points in 39 games with the Chiefs during the 2025-26 campaign, his first in North America.
Alumni updates
Northern Michigan University secured a commitment from mobile defender Jason Davenport. The 2006-born Shelby Township, Michigan native played the 2025-26 season with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL, recording one goal and 13 assists in 59 games. His BCHL career totals stand at two goals and 11 assists for 13 points in 53 games split between West Kelowna, Powell River, and Blackfalds during the 2024-25 season.
The Rockford IceHogs of the AHL signed 24-year-old Marcus Joughin to an official contract. The Tecumseh, Ontario native earned the promotion after picking up six points in 11 ECHL games with the Indy Fuel following a 34-point NCAA season as an alternate captain at Sacred Heart. Joughin was a solid contributor for the West Kelowna Warriors from 2020 to 2022, producing 23 goals and 47 assists for 70 points in 64 games.
The Slovenian National Team added 22-year-old Maks Perčič to their official roster for the IIHF World Men’s Hockey Championship in Switzerland. The Maribor, Slovenia product advanced his development in the BCHL from 2023-25. The blueliner had four goals and 18 assists for 22 points across 97 BCHL games with Vernon, Merritt, and Prince George. He turned pro last season, putting up five points in 36 games with HC Slava Praha in Maxa liga – the second level of pro hockey in Czechia.
