Bentham joins the Kings for 2022-23
The Powell River Kings have added 2005-born defender Caleb Bentham as a new recruit for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
The Victoria, BC product spent 2021-22 with the South Island Royals U18 AAA in the BC Elite Hockey League and posted five goals and 22 points in 35 games.
He also played one game in the regular season and one in the playoffs as an affiliate with the Westshore Wolves of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League.
Naylor joins OCN as general manager and head coach
Darren Naylor (39 goals, 85 assists in 94 games with Delta, Langley, Juan de Fuca, Ladner, and Vernon between 1986-87 and 1989-90) is the new general manager and head coach of the OCN Blizzard of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
Naylor, 53, was the GM and head coach of the Nanaimo Clippers for the last three and a half seasons. In March, the White Rock, BC native was placed on administrative leave by the BC Hockey League office until May 31 for allegedly breaching the league’s coaches’ code of conduct.
BCHL is seeking a Safe Sport Officer
The BC Hockey League posted on Wednesday the details for a volunteer Safe Sport Officer it is hiring. Details on the position are here and the league is accepting applications until July 8.
Marchant is off to Arizona State University
Defender Ty Marchant (no points in one game with Penticton in 2019-20) has committed to playing in the American Collegiate Hockey Association at Arizona State University this fall.
The native of Kelowna, BC played the last three seasons with his hometown Chiefs of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, tallying 13 goals and 76 points in 93 games.
Troumbly is off to Augustana University
2001-born forward Ben Troumbly (one goal, one assist in four games with Wenatchee in 2021-22) has committed to Augustana University to play NCAA hockey this September.
Troumbly, from Bovey, MN, played the last two seasons with the Bismarck Bobcats of the North American Hockey League and put up 18 goals and 52 points in 98 games. He added four points in 11 NAHL playoff games.
Hayward turns pro with Neuilly-sur-Marne
McGill University forward Blake Hayward (26 goals, 34 assists in 142 games with Coquitlam and Prince George from 2014-18) has signed his first professional contract with Neuilly-sur-Marne of France’s FFHG, Division 1 for the 2022-23 season.
Hayward, a 24-year-old from Vancouver, BC, played the last three years in U SPORTS, putting up seven goals and 12 points in 36 games at McGill over that span.
