Vees acquire Wisconsin commit Moravec

The Penticton Vees have acquired 2003-born forward Brett Moravec from the Calgary Canucks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League for future considerations.

Moravec, a native of Airdrie, AB committed to the University of Wisconsin for Sept. 2022, had four goals and 12 points in 15 games with the Canucks in the abbreviated 2020-21 season.

Clippers send Palandra to Brockville of the CCHL

The Nanaimo Clippers have acquired future considerations from the Brockville Braves of the Central Canada Hockey League for 2001-born defenseman Michael Palandra.

Palandra hails from Markham, ON, and posted a goal and three assists in 15 games with the Clippers during the 2020-21 BC Hockey League season.

Richter commits to Yale for 2022-23

2004-born Penticton Vees forward Beanie Richter has committed to Yale University for the 2023-24 NCAA season.

Richter, who’s from Greenwich, CT, played one game for the Vees during the 2020-21 BC Hockey League season. He also played three games for Penticton during the exhibition season last fall and had one assist.

He posted nine goals and 19 points in 31 US Prep School games with Brunswick School in 2019-20.

Gropp leaves Stjernen Hockey

Forward Ryan Gropp (16 goals, 24 assists in 62 games with Penticton from 2011-13) won’t play with Stjernen of Eliteserien in Norway in 2021-22 and his contract was terminated.

According to a news release from Stjernen, Gropp’s mother recently passed away and he is staying in North America to be with family.

This past season, the 24-year-old Kamloopsian had seven goals and nine points in 17 games with Västerviks IK of HockeyAllsvenskan, which is the second tier of pro hockey in Sweden.

From 2002 to 2012, he served in several roles around the Merritt Centennials organization, including as team president, board member, beat writer, colour commentator, webmaster, media and communications coordinator and marketing assistant. He's been writing about the BCHL since 2008 and served as colour commentator on the TSN 1040 broadcasts in 2012-13. BCHLNetwork is one of Brian's many passion projects that he balances around his full-time job as an instructor in the Radio Arts and Entertainment Program at BCIT in Burnaby.
