The seventh and final meeting of the Highway 97 series ended with the Vees dominating the Vernon Vipers 7-1 to extend their win streak to seven games.
The Vees came out buzzing in the opening frame vs the Vipers, exploding for four goals in the first 10 minutes. Lukas Sillinger opened the scoring on the first shot of the game, going top shelf, glove side on Vipers goalie Riley Herbst.
Goals by team leader Danny Weight and Tyler Ho in the first five minutes ended Herbst’s night early as he ended up being replaced by back up goalie Keegan Karki who didn’t fare well either, allowing four goals on 16 shots.
The Vees had eight days between games and it showed, as they had their legs going early, dictating the play. They pushed the pace while tilting the ice on the Vipers side. It was wave after wave of attack and the Vipers got bit time after time. By the end of the second period, the Vees had already put up a touchdown on the scoreboard.
The three stars of the game all came from Pentiction. Ho and Colton Kalezic both earned a goal and an assist while third star Ethan Martini picked up his first goal as a member of the Vees. Goalie Yaniv Perets returned in net and stopped 23 shots for the victory.
On tap for the Vees is a date with the Surrey Eagles who are coming off a 3-0 win over Chilliwack. The last time the Vees played the Eagles, Penticton won 5-3 at the South Surrey Arena. The Vees look to keep things rolling and push their win streak to eight games. Puck drop is Wednesday at 6:30 pm at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
