Eagles and Rivermen swing four-player deal

The Surrey Eagles sent 2003-born goaltender Eli Pulver, 2003-born forward Conner Schneider, and 2005-born forward Ewan Rennie to the Langley Rivermen in exchange for 2003-born goaltender Ajeet Gundarah.

Gundarah, who is from Richmond, B.C., played 38 regular-season games with Langley in 2022-23, earning a 13-19-3 record, a 2.98 goals-against average, a .921 save percentage, and two shutouts. He was also 2-4-0 in six playoff games, allowing 2.95 goals per game and posting a save percentage of .922.

Pulver, who hails from Vancouver, played 35 regular-season games with Surrey in 2022-23, earning a 23-8-3 record, a 2.29 goals-against average, a .930 save percentage, and six shutouts. He is a veteran of 56 BCHL games with the Eagles over the past three seasons. He also got into two games as an affiliate with Powell River in 2019-20.

Schneider, who is from Madison, Wisconsin, played 32 regular-season games with Surrey in 2022-23, scoring six goals and 14 points. In 12 playoff contests, he added one goal and seven assists. According to College Hockey News, Schneider is committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha for the 2023-24 season.

Rennie, who hails from White Rock, B.C., played 36 regular-season games as a rookie with Surrey in 2022-23, earning four goals and six assists. He also added one assist in 11 playoff games.

Pulver was on the move again just hours later as the Rivermen sent him to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in exchange for a player development fee.

Bulldogs add two forwards

In what was a busy morning for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, the team announced the signing of 2004-born forward Lucas Buzziol and 2005-born forward Jimmy Lyver for the 2023-24 season.

Buzziol, who is from Mississauga, Ont., played in 45 regular-season games with the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Milton Menace, scoring 23 goals and 54 points. He added two goals and six assists in nine OJHL playoff contests. He is committed to NCAA Division I Union College for the 2024-25 season. The school is located in Schenectady, New York.

Lyver, hailing from Grafton, Massachusettes, spent his 2022-23 season with St. Mark’s School, part of the United States High School Prep program. He had 17 goals and 38 points in 29 games. He also was a Boston Little Bruins 18U AAA team member, with unverified statistics. He is committed to the College of the Holy Cross, located in Worcester, Massachusettes to play NCAA Division I hockey.

Buss heads back to Vernon

Following a season with the United State Hockey League’s Muskegon Lumberjacks, 2003-born forward Luke Buss has decided to return to the Vipers for the 2023-24 season.

Buss, who is from Columbus, Ohio, played in 54 games with the Lumberjacks during the 2022-23 season. He scored seven goals and had 21 points.

He had 16 goals and 20 assists in 48 games with Vernon during the 2021-22 B.C. Hockey League season.

Bucks grab netminder’s commitment

2005-born goaltender Danick Leroux has committed to the Cranbrook Bucks for the 2023-24 season. He is committed to the NCAA Division I College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts for the 2024-25 season.

Leroux, who hails from Candiac, Que., played at Berkshire School as part of the United States High School Prep program in 2022-23. He suited up for the club in 25 games but does not have any other verifiable statistics from last season.

Chiefs sign 2007-born defender

2007-born defender Hudson Wiles has signed with the Chilliwack Chiefs for the 2023-24 season.

Wiles, who is from Port Elgin, Ont., played 36 regular-season games with the Eastern Triple A Hockey League’s Barrie Colts U16 AAA team, tallying eight goals and adding 16 assists. In four playoff contests, he added two goals and three points.

Clippers sign Oakville Blades captain Brown

2005-born defender Andrew Brown has signed with the Nanaimo Clippers for the 2023-24 season.

Brown, who hails from Oakville, Ont., joins the Clippers following a season as captain of his hometown Blades of the OJHL. He scored nine times and added 27 assists in 52 regular-season contests as Oakville’s captain. Brown was also named to the OJHL All-Prospect First Team.

Metson returns to the OJHL’s Cougars

2003-born Powell River Kings goaltender Kyle Metson has returned to the OJHL, joining the Burlington Cougars for the 2023-24 season. Metson played for the Cougars in 2021-22 before a multi-layered trade brought him to Powell River last off-season.

Metson, who is from Belle River, Ont., played 38 regular-season games for the Kings this past season, earning an 11-17-5 record, a 4.02 goals-against average, and a .883 save percentage. He also saw action in five playoff games, going 1-4-0, with a 4.43 goals-against average, and a .884 save percentage.

Nelson commits to Long Island University

2003-born West Kelowna forward Brennan Nelson has committed to Long Island University for the 2024-25 NCAA Division I season. The school is located in Orangeburg, New York.

Nelson, from Edmonton, scored 12 goals and 40 points in 52 regular-season games with the Warriors in 2022-23. He also added two goals and seven points in four BCHL playoff games.

Visram heads to Simon Fraser University

23-year-old defender Liam Visram (one goal, eight assists in 69 games with Nanaimo and Merritt from 2018-21) has committed to Simon Fraser University of the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League for the 2023-24 season. SFU is located in Burnaby, B.C.

Visram, who hails from Langley, B.C., spent the 2022-23 season playing for Portage College in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference, where he scored one goal and had 11 points.

Calder commits to the Bisons

2002-born defender Kian Calder (one assist in eight games with Cowichan Valley in 2020-21) has committed to the University of Manitoba for the 2023-24 USPORTS season. `

Calder, who is from Portage la Prairie, Man., played 57 games with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Portage Terriers this past season, scoring 15 goals and 42 points. He also added one goal and eight points in 12 SJHL playoff games.

Constable becomes an LIU Shark

25-year-old forward Grayson Constable (12 goals, 26 assists in 93 games with Salmon Arm from 2016-18) has transferred from College of the Holy Cross to Long Island University for his fifth and final year of NCAA Division I eligibility.

Constable, who is from Lethbridge, Alta., scored six goals and 12 points in 40 games as captain at Holy Cross in 2022-23.

Joseph commits to Minot State

2002-born forward Colby Joseph (one goal in 10 games with Victoria in 2020-21) has committed to Minot State University of the American Collegiate Hockey Association. MSU is located in Minot, North Dakota.

Joseph, who is from Elkhorn, Man., played 58 regular-season games with the North American Hockey League’s Minot Minotauros in 2022-23, scoring 10 goals and 28 points. He also earned an assist in three NAHL playoff games.

HC Banska Bystrica adds Wilkins

32-year-old forward Matt Wilkins (seven goals, 18 assists in 37 games with Trail in 2009-10) has found a home for 2023-24, joining HC Banska Bystrica of the Extraliga in Slovakia. Banska Bystrica is a town in the region of the same name located in the central region of Slovakia.

Wilkins, who is from Kimberley, B.C., played for two teams in the Swiss League in 2022-23. He first played for EHC Winterthur, scoring nine goals and 29 points in 36 games. He was then loaned to HC La Chaux-de-Fonds for two regular-season games, where he had one goal and two assists.

He then played in 12 playoff games, earning three goals and eight points and finished his season with two points in six qualification games.

Berry heads to Germany

24-year-old defender Spencer Berry (three goals, 29 assists in 112 games with Surrey and Langley from 2015-18) has signed with the Bayreuth Tigers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga 2 in Germany. Bayreuth is a northern Bavarian town west of Czechia.

Berry, who hails from White Rock, B.C., played his fifth and final season at the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2022-23. He scored once and added six assists in 37 NCAA Division I games.
