Cents make a pair of deals

The Merritt Centennials beefed up their defense on Monday with the acquisition of 2000-born blueliner Trevor Isaksson from the Trail Smoke Eaters for future considerations.

Isaksson is from North Delta, BC, and had three assists in 35 games with the Smokies in 2019-20. He had one assist in 40 games during the 2018-19 season split between Penticton, Nanaimo, and Trail.

The Cents also shipped 2000-born forward Hunor Torzsok to the Prince George Spruce Kings for future considerations.

Torzsok had 19 points in 38 games with the Centennials this past season, including 16 goals, which was third on the team.

He also played two games with the Western Hockey League’s Everett Silvertips. Torzsok has played 39 career WHL games and 74 career BCHL games.

Grizzlies alum Benn edged in Stanley Cup final game two

Dallas captain Jamie Benn (42 goals and 23 assists in 61 games with Victoria from 2005-07) was held off the scoresheet for the second straight game as his Stars lost 3-2 to Tampa Bay in game two of the Stanley Cup Final.

The series is now tied 1-1 with game three set for Wednesday at 5 pm in the NHL’s Edmonton bubble.
