BCHL governors voting on abbreviated season

Global TV sports reporter Jay Janower (nine goals, 11 assists in 30 games with Abbotsford in 1987-88) did a story on Wednesday on the Chilliwack Chiefs opening training camp and a number of league tidbits were included.

Janower noted that the BCHL’s Board of Governors is voting on Thursday to decide about playing an abbreviated season, expected to be 30-40 games long.

Other news to come from Janower’s story is that the league is resorting to a full pay-to-play model for this season as well as mandating the use of a full face shield for all players in 2020-21.

Cents move veteran netminder to Humboldt

The Merritt Centennials have traded 2000-born goaltender Tanner Marshall to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Humboldt Broncos for future considerations.

The move leaves the Cents without an experienced back-up to starter Josh Dias, who was acquired via trade earlier this offseason.

Centennials sign defenseman Hungle

In addition to trading Marshall, the Centennials added 2004-born forward Jacksenn Hungle for the upcoming season.

Hungle is from Victoria and had 27 points in 34 games with the Yale Hockey Academy Elite 15s of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League in 2019-20.

He also played two games with the Yale Academy Prep team as an affiliate player.
