The Powell River Kings have announced the acquisition of 2002-born defenseman Jason Marsella from the Cranbrook Bucks for future considerations. He was in camp with the US Hockey League’s Chicago Steel before being recently released.
The Greenwich, CT product played eight games for Connecticut Jr. Rangers of the National Collegiate Development Conference in 2020-21 and posted one assist. He also had a goal in seven games with the Penticton Vees during the BCHL’s exhibition season last fall.
Marsella, who’s committed to Yale University for September 2022, was released by the Vees on Nov. 21 and joined the Bucks three days later.

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks unveiled their leadership corps on Monday, including a captain and four alternates. Donning the ‘C’ for the Backs this season is 2001-born forward and Colgate University commit Daniel Panetta as he takes over from graduated blueliner Hunter Sansbury.
Alternate captains for Salmon Arm this season are 2002-born forward Brandon Santa Juana, 2003-born forward Noah Serdachny, 2001-born forward Simon Tassy, and 2001-born defenseman Kieran Ruscheinski.

Late last week, the West Kelowna Warriors announced the addition of 2003-born defensemen Isaiah Norlin and Zach Reim to their blueline. Both played US prep school hockey for Gentry Academy in St. Paul, MN in 2020-21.
Norlin, a native of Minneapolis, MN, had six goals and 27 points in 19 games this past season. He added a pair of goals in 15 games with the Minnesota Muskies 18U AAA team.
Reim hails from North Oaks, MN, and was the captain at Gentry in 2020-21, finishing tied for fourth in team scoring with 10 goals and 36 points in 19 games.

The Victoria Grizzlies have hired Colin Wright as their athletic therapist for the 2021-22 BC Hockey League season. Wright is a certified athletic therapist at The Athlete Centre, which is a multi-disciplinary clinic in Victoria, BC.

27-year-old forward Alec Butcher (one assist in eight games with Prince George in 2012-13) has inked a deal with the Rapid City Rush of the ECHL for the 2021-22 season.
The product of Anchorage, AK didn’t play in 2020-21 due to the pandemic but posted 27 goals and 52 points in 89 ECHL games with the Wheeling Nailers from 2018-20.

Defenseman Matt Stief (eight goals, 68 assists in 109 games with Prince George from 2014-16) has signed a contract with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL.
The 25-year-old native of Boca Raton, FL spent 2020-21 with the Macon Mayhem of the Southern Professional Hockey League and posted a goal and seven points in 34 games.

Netminder Ty Taylor (36-17-0, 2.38 goals-against average, .919 save percentage, eight shutouts in 60 games with Vernon from 2016-18) has transferred from the University of New Hampshire of the NCAA to Grant MacEwan University of U SPORTS.
Over the last three seasons with the Wildcats, the 22-year-old from Richmond, BC compiled an 8-7-1 record to go along with a 3.76 goals-against average and an .852 save percentage in 21 NCAA games.

Goaltender Carlos Siso (1-1-0, 3.84 goals-against-average, .885 save percentage in three games with Alberni Valley in 2019-20) has been traded from the Campbell River Storm of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League to the Creston Valley Thunder Cats of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League for future considerations.
The 2001-born netminder from Calgary, AB had sparkling numbers with the Storm in 2020-21, posting a 3-1 record, a 1.74 goals-against-average, a .912 save percentage, and two shutouts in four games before COVID-19 shut the VIJHL season down.
