Wednesday’s game between Merritt and Penticton postponed

The BC Hockey League announced on Tuesday that the game on Wednesday in Penticton between the Merritt Centennials and the Vees is postponed.

The entire population of Merritt was evacuated on Monday due to extreme flooding that caused the city’s wastewater treatment facility to fail. City officials expect the evacuation order to remain in place for at least a week.

The Centennials are set to host Vernon on Friday and Prince George on Saturday, games which will almost certainly also be postponed.

MacLeod released by the Manchester Storm

Forward Wade MacLeod (65 goals, 81 assists in 101 games with Merritt from 2005-2007) has been released by the Manchester Storm of the Elite Ice Hockey League, the top tier of pro hockey in the United Kingdom.

MacLeod, from Coquitlam, BC, had one assist in seven games with the Storm this season, which was his first professional action since 2017-18 due to injuries and a battle with brain cancer.

Muller joins HC La Chaux-de-Fonds for remainder of 2021-22

Forward Devin Muller (31 goals, 54 assists in 102 games with Salmon Arm from 2010-12) has been loaned in the Swiss League by EHC Olten to HC La Chaux-de-Fonds for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

The 29-year-old from Zug, SUI, had a goal and four points in 18 games with Olten this season.

Pierog assigned back to the Worcester Railers

Forward Nic Pierog (40 goals, 33 assists in 112 games with Surrey and Penticton from 2012-14) was assigned by the American Hockey League’s Springfield Thunderbirds to the Worcester Nailers of the ECHL on Tuesday.

Pierog, 28, has posted a goal and an assist in two games with the Nailers this season. He also played one game with the Thunderbirds. It’s the fourth full pro season for the product of Georgetown, ON.
