Bulldogs snag Leyer from AJHL’s Wolverines

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have acquired 2002-born forward Ethan Leyer from the Whitecourt Wolverines of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

The Bulldogs acquisition of Leyer completes the future considerations from the Feb. 22 trade that saw Alberni Valley send 2001-born forward Jacob Bossé to the Wolverines.

Leyer, a St. Albert, AB product who is committed to St. Cloud State University for September 2022, had a goal and six points in 10 games for Whitecourt this past season.

Three BCHL players selected in NAHL Supplemental Draft

Three players who played in the BC Hockey League during the 2020-21 pod season were selected in the 2021 North American Hockey League Supplemental Draft on Wednesday.

A total of 87 players were selected in the draft, with NAHL teams eligible to pick three.

  • 2001-born Cowichan Valley Capitals forward Joey Moffatt (2nd overall to the Anchorage Wolverines)
  • 2002-born Chilliwack Chiefs defenseman Lachlan Getz (38th overall to the St. Cloud Norsemen)
  • 2001-born forward Riley Wallack (44th overall to the Odessa Jackalopes)

Clippers bring in Burgmann in advanced scouting role

The Nanaimo Clippers announced the hiring of Josh Burgmann as an advanced scout on Wednesday. The 23-year-old from Nanaimo will scout mainly on video as he is also a professional baseball player who was chosen by the Chicago Cubs in the fifth round, 162nd overall, in the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft.

St. Denis signs with Straubing for 2021-22

Forward Travis St. Denis (99 goals, 126 assists in 203 games with Trail and Penticton from 2008-12) has signed with the Straubing Tigers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga for the 2021-22 season.

The 28-year-old from Trail, BC spent the last five seasons in the American Hockey League, most recently in 2020-21 with the Binghamton Devils. St. Denis has 145 points in 290 career AHL games.
