BCHL Today: Cents get goaltender Dias from AJHL, Spruce Kings bring blueliner Gabruch back to BCHL, and more

 

Cents bring in veteran goalie Dias

The Merritt Centennials swung a deal on Thursday to pick up a 2000-born goaltender Josh Dias from the Lloydminster Bobcats of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in exchange for 2000-born forward Chase Nameth.

The trade is a move closer to home for both players. Dias is from Surrey, BC and he went 7-29-3 with a 3.79 goals-against-average and a .900 save percentage in 40 games with the Bobcats last season. He also went 1-1 with a 3.50 GAA and a .837 SV% with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons before being traded to Lloydminster in September.

Nemeth is from Regina, Saskatchewan. He posted eight goals and 14 assists in 54 games with the Cents in 2019-20.

Spruce Kings swap Reeves for Gabruch

The Prince George Spruce Kings picked up 2001-born defenseman Zachary Gabruch from the Wellington Dukes of the Ontario Junior Hockey League for 2001-born forward Mason Reeves.

Gabruch, from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, spent 2019-20 with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks before being traded to Wellington last week. He had a goal and four assists in 56 games with Salmon Arm last season.

Reeves is from Waterdown, Ontario and he posted three goals in 19 games with the Spruce Kings after being acquired from the Brooks Bandits of the AJHL. He also had a goal and seven assists in 27 games with the Bandits.

Grizzlies flip Clark to Winkler

The Victoria Grizzlies have traded the junior A rights to 2002-born defenseman Braydon Clark to the Winkler Flyers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey in exchange for 2001-born defenseman Campbell Ens and future considerations.

Clark, who’s from Langley, BC, spent most of 2019-20 with the Merritt Centennials, scoring a goal and two assists. He also appeared in 11 games with the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League, who traded his rights to Spokane in April.

Ens hails from Carman, Manitoba, and put up a goal and an assist in 33 games with the Flyers this past season as a rookie.

Eagles forward King commits to University of Denver

Surrey Eagles 2001-born forward Carter King has committed to the University of Denver. King, who’s from Calgary, had 18 goals and 15 assists in 58 games with the Eagles in 2019-20.

It’s unknown if King will head to Denver this fall, in 2021 or 2022, as he still has two more seasons of junior hockey eligibility remaining.

Incoming Vees forward Bottini selected to Swiss U20 camp

2002-born forward Stefano Bottini has been invited to Switzerland’s U20 national camp to try and secure a spot of the Swiss team for the 2021 World Junior Hockey Championship.

Bottini had 12 goals and 28 assists in 43 games for the Lugano U20 squad in 2019-20. He added two goals and five assists in 14 international U18 games representing his country.
