Defenseman Brandon Manning (seven goals, 19 assists in 58 games with Prince George in 2007-08) has signed with the Straubing Tigers of the Deutsch Eishockey Liga for 2021-22.

The 31-year-old product of Prince George, BC didn’t play any hockey of record during the 2020-21 season, but split the previous season between the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers and the American Hockey League’s Bakersfield Condors.

In nine games with the Oilers, he had one goal. Manning also chipped in nine assists in 21 games with the Condors.

Vilio inks tryout with Barys Nur-Sultan

Defenseman Elijah Vilio (no points in one game with Surrey in 2016-17) has signed a try-out contract with Barys Nur-Sultan of the Kontinental Hockey League.

The try-out runs through the end of August. Vilio, a 24-year-old from Abbotsford, BC, was set for his fourth season at Trinity Western University in 2020-21 before COVID-19 shut it down.

In 66 games in the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League at TWU, he posted 20 goals and 56 points. Vilio led the BCIHL in scoring from the blueline in 2019-20 and was named to the league’s second all-star team.
