Hutson leaves Penticton for Muskegon

Penticton Vees forward Quinn Hutson is now on the roster of the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the US Hockey League.

The 2002-born, Chicago, Illinois product played his last game with the Vees against Vernon on Nov. 14 and played his first game with the Lumberjacks on Dec. 16. He has three points in five USHL games thus far.

Hutson, who is committed to Boston University for this September, was second on Penticton in scoring during the BCHL’s 2020-21 training season with 17 points in 14 games.

Express recruit Hughes joins Chippewa

After playing 11 games for the Coquitlam Express during the BCHL’s training season, 2001-born forward Jackson Hughes is on the roster of the Chippewa Steel in the NAHL.

Hughes, who hails from South Lyon, Illinois, scored two goals and posted two assists with the Express this past fall.

He has yet to play a game with the Steel since appearing on their roster.

Arquiett to play in Aberdeen rather than Vernon

2000-born forward Will Arquiett made his debut with the Aberdeen Wings of the NAHL – and scored a goal – on New Year’s Day in a game against the Bismark Bobcats.

The Brasher Falls, New York product played 10 games for Vernon during the Okanagan Cup pre-season tournament and posted four goals and an assist.

Arquiett, who’s committed to St. Lawrence University for this fall, was acquired by the Vipers in a trade from Cowichan Valley in October. He had 30 points in 53 games as a rookie with the Caps last season.

Emerson continues his career in Lone Star

Looking for a place to play after the Wenatchee Wild announced a hiatus due to restrictions put in place to combat COVID-19, 2001-born forward Quinn Emerson landed with the Lone Star Brahmas of the NAHL.

The native of Manhattan Beach, California, and son of longtime NHLer Nelson Emerson, had eight goals and eight assists in 53 games with the Wild as a rookie during the 2019-20 BCHL season.

He has no points through four games with the Brahmas thus far in 2020-21 and is committed to Bowling Green State University for this fall.

Margel leaves USHL for Johnstown of the NAHL

Forward Will Margel (six goals, 17 assists in 30 games with Coquitlam in 2019-20) signed with the Johnstown Tomahawks of the NAHL.

The University of New Hampshire commit from Potomac, Maryland was with the USHL’s Lincoln Stars this season and had no points in two games.

Kehler gets invite to Jets training camp

Goaltender Cole Kehler (18-24-0, 3.84 GAA, .898 SV% in 43 games with Merritt in 2015-16) has signed a professional tryout contract to attend training camp with the Winnipeg Jets.

The 23-year-old from Altona, Manitoba was 14-10-4 with a 3.05 goals-against-average, a .901 save percentage, and two shutouts in 31 games with the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL in 2019-20.

Hammond goes from Frederikshavn to Odense

Forward Mike Hammond (82 goals, 117 assists in 159 games with Victoria, Cowichan Valley, and Salmon Arm from 2007-11) signed with the Frederikshavn White Hawks of Metal Ligaen, which is the top hockey league in Denmark for the remainder of 2020-21.

Hammond, 30, had 23 points in 20 games with Odense in Metal Ligaen this season before leaving for Frederikshavn.

2020-21 is the Brighton, Great Britain product’s fifth straight season playing overseas.
