Chiefs bring in Dornan

The Chilliwack Chiefs announced the addition of 2004-born forward Drew Dornan for the upcoming BC Hockey League season.

Dornan, who hails from Abbotsford, BC, had six points in six games with the Chilliwack Jets of the Pacific Junior Hockey League this season.

Adaszynski to join the Vipers next season

2005-born forward David Adaszynski is set to join the ranks of the Vernon Vipers for the 2021-22 BCHL season.

The 2020 sixth-round bantam draft pick of the Western Hockey League’s Calgary Hitmen is currently with Burnaby Winter Club Prep.

In four Canadian Sport School Hockey League games with BWC this season, the Burnaby product has a goal and two assists.

Mackie to don a Silverbacks jersey next season

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks announced the commitment of 2004-born forward Nathan Mackie for the 2021-22 season.

The Prince George native had eight points in four exhibition games with the Okanagan Rockets U18 AAA this past fall.

Tanner joins ranks of the Chilliwack Chiefs for this season

2003-born forward Liam Tanner of Langley has joined the Chilliwack Chiefs for the 2020-21 BCHL season. He had originally committed to the Chiefs for this fall.

Tanner played for the Fraser Valley U18 Thunderbirds of the BC U18 AAA League in 2019-20 and had 48 points in 40 games.

He played one game with the Chiefs as an affiliate player last season against his hometown Rivermen but didn’t register any points.

Bucks add Burgin to blueline from Winkler

Due to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League shutting down for the season, its players are essentially free agents and one has landed with the Cranbrook Bucks.

Joining the BCHL’s newest franchise is 2000-born defenseman Drake Burgin from the Winkler Flyers.

Burgin hails from Winnipeg and is committed to St. Lawrence University for this fall. He was in camp with the US Hockey League’s Dubuque Fighting Saints last fall but didn’t play any games.

He was second among all blueliners in MJHL scoring in 2019-20 with 53 points in 60 games.

Chiefs pick up McBay in a trade from Wellington

The Chilliwack Chiefs acquired 2000-born defenseman Tyler McBay from the Wellington Dukes of the Ontario Junior Hockey League for future considerations on Wednesday.

McBay, who is committed to playing NCAA hockey at St. Lawrence University this fall, posted 10 points in 25 games split between Brockville and Cornwall of the Central Canada Hockey League in 2019-20.

Chiefs add RPI commit Andrew from Winkler

The Chilliwack Chiefs have brought in 2000-born forward Tanner Andrew from the Winkler Flyers.

The Virden, Manitoba product had eight points in eight games with the Flyers during the abbreviated 2020-21 MJHL season.

He also notched a combined 85 points in 119 games over two and a half seasons with his hometown Oil Capitals from 2017-20.

Andrew, who is committed to the Rochester Institute of Technology for this fall, was traded from Virden to Winkler last September.

Marlies beef up their crease with the addition of Redmond

A day after joining them on loan from the ECHL’s Kansas City Mavericks, the Toronto Marlies of the AHL signed goaltender Angus Redmond (59-61-0, 2.94 GAA, .906 SV%, 8 SO in 132 games with Salmon Arm from 2013-16) to a contract.

Redmond, a 25-year-old from Langley, is 2-0 with a 2.00 goals-against-average and a .923 save percentage since joining Kansas City last week.

Johnson making waves for 2021 NHL Draft

University of Michigan forward Kent Johnson (61 goals and 86 assists in 112 games with Trail from 2018-20) is listed as one of 10 prospects for the 2021 NHL Draft by Sportsnet junior hockey analyst Sam Costantino.

Johnson, a projected first-round pick from Port Moody, BC in the running for the Hobey Baker Award as the top NCAA player, has 20 points in 18 games so far this season.

Nachbaur heads back to the WHL as Ams associate coach

Don Nachbaur (22 goals, 27 assists in 54 games with Merritt in 1976-77) has joined the Tri-City Americans of the WHL as an associate coach.

Nachbaur, 61, stepped down as head coach of SC Bern in the Swiss National League for personal reasons in December.

The Kitimat, BC product has 19 seasons of experience as a head coach in the WHL – all in the US Division – with Seattle (1994-2000), Tri-City (2003-09), and Spokane (2010-17).

Herbst commits to Ohio State University

Omaha Lancers goaltender Reilly Herbst (20-10-3, 2.91 GAA, .901 SV%, 1 SO in 34 games with Vernon in 2019-20) has committed to the Ohio State University Buckeyes for this coming September.

The 2000-born netminder has a 3-1 record with a 3.55 goals-against-average and a .873 save percentage in four games split between the Lancers and Dubuque in the USHL this season.

Miska assigned to American Hockey League by Colorado

Goaltender Hunter Miska (53-21-5 with a 2.03 GAA, a .924 SV%, and seven shutouts in 80 games with Penticton from 2013-15) has been assigned by the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche to the Colorado Eagles of the AHL.

Miska was placed in the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol on Monday. The 25-year-old from Stacy, Minnesota is 0-1-1 with a 3.55 goals-against-average and a .881 save percentage in two games with the Avs this season.
