Hirose sent from Detroit’s taxi squad to AHL Grand Rapids

Forward Taro Hirose (33 goals, 88 assists in 116 games with Salmon Arm from 2014-16) was assigned from the Detroit Red Wings taxi squad to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Sunday.

Hirose, 24, has two assists in six games with the Red Wings this season. He spent the last five games on Detroit’s taxi squad and hasn’t played a game since Feb. 3.

Dekeyser waived by the Red Wings

Defenseman Danny Dekeyser (eight goals, 17 assists in 58 games with Trail during 2008-09) was placed on waivers by the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.

The 30-year-old from Detroit has one goal in 10 games with the Red Wings this season, his eighth in the NHL.

Redmond signed to ECHL contract by Kansas City

Goaltender Angus Redmond (59-61-0, 2.94 GAA, .906 SV%, 8 SO in 132 games with Salmon Arm from 2013-16) has signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Mavericks of the ECHL.

Redmond, a 25-year-old from Langley, was in training camp with the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors earlier this month before being released.

He played 20 ECHL games for the Newfoundland Growlers in 2019-20 and finished with a 16-2-0 record along with a 2.55 goals-against-average and a .907 save percentage.

The netminder made his Mavericks debut on Sunday and made 27 saves in a 4-2 win over the Allen Americans.
