BCHL Today: Switzerland opens with a loss and Canada preps for Germany at World Juniors

Swiss fall to 0-1 at World Junior Hockey Championship

Switzerland, which features Stefano Bottini of the Penticton Vees and Ray Fust of the Chilliwack Chiefs, fell to 0-1 at the 2021 World Junior Hockey Championship with a 1-0 loss to Slovakia on Christmas Day.

Fust finished the game with two shots on goal and one minor penalty. He had a shot that rifled off the post in the first period. Bottini didn’t register on the scoresheet at all.

The Swiss have the day off on Boxing Day but face Finland on Sunday at 11 AM Pacific Time.

Newhook and Team Canada open World Juniors vs. Germany

Forward Alex Newhook (60 goals, 108 assists in 98 games with Victoria from 2017-19) and Team Canada open their portion of the tournament in Edmonton today (Saturday) at 3 PM Pacific Time against Germany.

Newhook, who’s a sophomore at Boston College this season, was held scoreless in Canada’s 1-0 pre-tournament win over Russia last Wednesday.

Germany is coming off a 5-3 loss to Finland on Christmas Day.
