Vees bring defenceman Marchant aboard as an affiliate

Penticton signed defenceman Ty Marchant of Kelowna as an affiliate player and he made his BCHL debut on Saturday as the Vees faced Vernon. Marchant, 18, has 18 points (1 goal, 17 assists) in 27 games with the Kelowna Chiefs of the KIJHL in 2019-20.

Grizzlies ink forward Westhaver as an AP

Forward Andy Westhaver made his BCHL debut on Sunday against Chilliwack after being signed by Victoria as an affiliate player. The 18-year-old has 17 points (10 goals, 7 assists) in 22 games with the Westshore Wolves of the VIJHL this season.

Three Stars of the Night

First Star: Nanaimo’s Joshua Bourne exploded for four goals and one assist.

Second Star: Salmon Arm defenceman Akito Hirose chipped in with two goals and an assist.

Third Star: Victoria blueliner James Davenport finished the night with two goals.

Honourable Mentions:  Nanaimo forward Kyler Kovich had three assists and BCHL scoring leader Kent Johnson notched a goal and two assists for Trail.

Brian Wiebe

Brian's been involved in the BCHL in a variety of capacities for 17 years. From 2002 to 2012, he served in several roles around the Merritt Centennials organization, including as team president, board member, beat writer, colour commentator, webmaster, media and communications coordinator and marketing assistant. He's been writing about the BCHL since 2008 and served as colour commentator on the TSN 1040 broadcasts in 2012-13. BCHLNetwork is one of Brian's many passion projects that he balances around his full-time job as an instructor in the Radio Arts and Entertainment Program at BCIT in Burnaby.
