BCHL Today: Atkinson out in Salmon Arm, former Spruce King Manning sent to AHL, Three Stars of the Night, and more

Silverbacks Head Coach/GM Atkinson no longer with the team

There’s been no announcement or news release from the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, but Scotty Atkinson is no longer the team’s head coach and GM. Atkinson was listed as head coach on the BCHL website for the Backs game at home on Sunday, but is longer on the team’s website.

Tyler Shattock, who was an assistant coach with Salmon Arm, is now listed as head coach. Brooks Christensen, who was previously shown as governor and operations manager, now has the title of GM and governor. The Silverbacks have won two of their last three after a nine game losing streak.

Former Spruce Kings dman Manning sent down by Edmonton

Brandon Manning (7 goals, 19 assists in 58 games with Prince George in 2007-08) cleared NHL waivers on Sunday and was sent down to the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL. The defenceman has one goal in nine games with the Oilers this season.

Three Stars of the Night

First Star: Vernon goaltender James Porter Jr. made 43 saves.

Second Star: Vipers forward Cameron MacDonald scored a pair of goals.

Third Star: Coquitlam forward Greg Lapointe notched a goal and an assist.

Honourable Mentions: Salmon Arm defenceman Akito Hirose and Vernon forward Dawson Holt each had a goal and an assist. Coquitlam forward Joshua Wildauer posted two assists. Chilliwack goaltender Mathieu Caron turned aside 26 shots.
