BCHL Today: Rickwood named POW, Coghlan shuffled by Vegas, and more

 

Rickwood named player of the week

Victoria Grizzlies rookie forward Ellis Rickwood was named the BC Hockey League’s player of the week on Monday.

The 2002-born forward from Brantford, Ontario scored four goals in his first BCHL game on Friday, a 6-5 shootout win over Alberni Valley. He added another goal in a 4-3 loss to Nanaimo on Saturday.

Coghlan sent to Golden Knights’ taxi squad

Defenseman Dylan Coghlan (no points in two games with Nanaimo in 2013-14) was reassigned by the Vegas Golden Knights to their taxi squad on Sunday. He was with the NHL club as an emergency exception.

The 23-year-old from Duncan, BC has three goals and five points in 22 games with Vegas this season.

Three Stars of the Night

First Star: Victoria forward Alex DiPaolo had a pair of assists, including setting up the winning goal, in a 4-3 victory over Alberni Valley.

Second Star: Grizzlies defenseman Isack Bandu finished the game with a goal and an assist.

Third Star: Bulldogs goaltender Luke Pearson made 32 saves in the loss, including 15 in the second period.

Honourable Mentions: Alberni Valley forward Josh Van Unen had a pair of assists. Bulldogs forwards Brandon Buhr and Stephen Castagna each posted a goal and an assist. Victoria forward Ellis Rickwood scored the game-winner for his sixth goal in three games.
