Brown and Bono score first career BCHL goals

2002-born forward Finn Brown scored his first BCHL goal on Sunday as his Alberni Valley Bulldogs defeated the Nanaimo Clippers 6-4.

Brown’s came at 8:28 of the first period to put the Bulldogs up 2-1. The Toronto product was playing in his eighth BCHL game. He’s committed to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute starting in September 2022.

2004-born forward Ethan Bono potted his first BCHL goal and it was the game-winner for the Bulldogs in Sunday’s victory against Nanaimo.

Bono, who’s committed to Merrimack for the 2023-24 season, scored with just 2:30 left in the third period to give Alberni Valley a 5-4 lead. It was the Port McNeill, BC product’s sixth BCHL contest.

Vees forward McGuire suspended three games by the BCHL

2002-born Penticton Vees forward Ryan McGuire has been suspended three games by the BC Hockey League Department of Player Safety for a blow to the head to 2002-born defenseman Jordan Hendry of the Trail Smoke Eaters.

The hit occurred during Saturday’s 3-0 Vees win and there was no penalty called on the play by the officials on the ice. The Smoke Eaters sent the video of the hit to the BCHL DOPS and requested supplemental discipline.

McGuire, who’s committed to Colgate University this fall, sat out Sunday’s game between Penticton and Cranbrook and will also miss games Wednesday against the Bucks and Friday against Trail.

Grizzlies bolster blueline with Adamek

The Victoria Grizzlies have added 2004-born defenseman and local Victoria product Michael Adamek for the 2021-22 BCHL season.

Adamek had a goal and seven points in nine games with the Westshore Wolves of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League this season.

Red Wings add Boyle to their taxi squad

Goaltender Kevin Boyle (20-15-1, 2.99 GAA, .903 SV%, 1 SO in 39 games with Westside in 2010-11) was recalled by the Detroit Red Wings from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League to their taxi squad on Sunday.

The 28-year-old from Manalapan Township, New Jersey is 5-2-1 with a 2.84 goals-against-average and a .886 save percentage in nine games with Grand Rapids this season.

Three Stars of the Night ⭐⭐⭐

First Star: Salmon Arm forward Simon Tassy notched a hat trick and an assist as the Silverbacks beat West Kelowna 6-5 in a shootout.

Second Star: Powell River defenseman Ben Brunette had two goals and an assist in a 4-2 win over Coquitlam.

Third Star: Alberni Valley forward Chase Klassen scored twice and added an assist in a 6-4 win against Nanaimo.

Honourable Mentions: Clippers forward Tristan Fraser, Nanaimo defenseman Trevor LeDonne, and Kings forward Josh Kagan each finished with a goal and two assists. Spruce Kings goaltender Aaron Trotter stopped 27 shots in a 3-2 shootout loss.
