BCHL Today: Rivermen add netminder Milberg, Warriors alternate captain Evans commits to UNH, and more

Rivermen get commitment from Sacred Heart-bound goalie Milberg

The Langley Rivermen solidified their goaltending on Saturday with the commitment of 19-year-old Brandon Milberg. He’s slated to attend Sacred Heart University in September 2021.

The native of Thornhill, Ontario spent this past season playing US high school hockey with Lawrence Academy in Massachusettes. Despite playing in the US since 2018, Milberg isn’t considered an import for the Rivermen because he is Canadian.

In eight games before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in January, he had a 1.12 goals-against-average and a .954 save percentage.

Warriors forward Evans commits to University of New Hampshire

West Kelowna Warriors leading scorer John Evans secured his post-BCHL career with a commitment to the University of New Hampshire. The 17-year-old had 22 goals and 28 assists in 57 games for the Warriors as a rookie this season.

Evans added two goals and an assist in West Kelowna’s five playoff games against Penticton. He was also named to the BCHL All-Rookie Team. The South Surrey product will return to the Warriors for next season before heading to UNH in September 2021.

Former Quesnel affiliate Festerling leaves German club

The 34-year-old had two goals and 12 assists in 41 games with Nurnberg this past season but rejected the Ice Tigers contract extension.
