BCHL Today: 2019-20 post-season All-Star teams announced, former Vees forward Conway called up to AHL, and more

2019-20 BCHL All-Star teams announced on Tuesday

The BCHL announced its 2019-20 post-season All-Stars on Tuesday, as voted on by the league’s 17 broadcasters. In total, nine All-Stars came from the Interior Division, seven from the Mainland Division, and two from the Island Division.

Six BCHL clubs represented on First Team All-Stars

The best of the BCHL is featured on the First All-Star Team, including 2021 NHL Entry Draft prospect Kent Johnson of the Trail Smoke Eaters and 2018 Philadelphia Flyers first round pick Jay O’Brien of the Penticton Vees.

Smoke Eaters dominate Second All-Star Team

The Smoke Eaters dominate the BCHL’s Second Team All-Stars with three of the six players coming from Trail.

  • F – Owen Ozar, Trail Smoke Eaters (26 goals, 40 assists in 54 games)
  • F – Philippe Lapointe, Trail Smoke Eaters (20 goals, 35 assists in 36 games)
  • D – Drew Cooper, Coquitlam Express (10 goals, 25 assists in 58 games)
  • D – Jake Livingstone, Langley Rivermen (11 goals, 38 assists in 52 games)

Two Warriors featured on All-Rookie Team

The BCHL unveiled its 2019-20 All Rookie Team on Tuesday.

  • F – Cody Monds, Victoria Grizzlies (22 goals, 37 assists in 57 games)
  • F – John Evans, West Kelowna Warriors (22 goals, 28 assists in 57 games)
  • D – Cooper Moore, Chilliwack Chiefs (12 goals, 21 assists in 55 games)
  • D – Nick Ardanaz, West Kelowna Warriors (4 goals, 28 assists in 58 games)
  • G – Logan Terness, Trail Smoke Eaters (27-10, 2.36 GAA, .932 SV%, 1 SO in 44 games)

Former Vees sniper Conway called up to Providence of the AHL

Forward Scott Conway (56 goals, 60 assists in 56 games with Penticton in 2015-16) has been recalled by the AHL’s Providence Bruins from the Atlanta Gladiators of the ECHL.

Conway has 16 goals and 16 assists in 36 games with Atlanta this season. He was called up to Providence earlier in the season and has three goals and two assists in 12 AHL games so far in 2019-20.

Brian Wiebe

Brian's been involved in the BCHL in a variety of capacities for 17 years. From 2002 to 2012, he served in several roles around the Merritt Centennials organization, including as team president, board member, beat writer, colour commentator, webmaster, media and communications coordinator and marketing assistant. He's been writing about the BCHL since 2008 and served as colour commentator on the TSN 1040 broadcasts in 2012-13. BCHLNetwork is one of Brian's many passion projects that he balances around his full-time job as an instructor in the Radio Arts and Entertainment Program at BCIT in Burnaby.
