Smokies pick up Cobetto-Roy from Salmon Arm
The Trail Smoke Eaters acquired 2003-born forward Mathieu Cobetto-Roy on Friday from the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in exchange for future considerations.
As a rookie for the Silverbacks in 2021-22, the Outremont, QC product posted 12 goals and 26 points in 46 games to finish tops on the team among all rookies.
His totals were seventh overall in scoring for the Backs and Cobetto-Roy also had a goal in a dozen playoff games with Salmon Arm.
Express adds Nathwani to its coaching staff
The Coquitlam Express has hired 32-year-old Adam Nathwani as its new video coach and hockey operations assistant.
Nathwani, who’s from Vancouver, BC, is also entering his second season as a scout for the Green Bay Gamblers of the US Hockey League. As well, he is the chief operating officer of a company called Drive Hockey Analytics.
He was previously part of Coquitlam’s staff as an interim assistant coach during the 2021 pod season.
Noble joins the Silverbacks as an assistant coach
54-year-old Kip Noble was hired on Friday by the Salmon Arm Silverbacks as an assistant coach to head coach Tyler Shattock.
Noble hails from Dawson Creek, BC, and was an assistant coach for the senior AA men’s Powell River Regals in 2021-22. He also served as a coach for various teams at the Okanagan Hockey Academy from 2014 to 2020.
Eagles sign Brown University commit Schwartz
The Surrey Eagles have signed 2004-born forward Aaron Schwartz for the 2022-23 BC Hockey League season.
He had six goals and 45 points in 48 games for the Islanders Hockey Club of the National Collegiate Development Conference during the 2021-22 season.
The Parkland, FL product is committed to Brown University to start his NCAA career in September 2023.
Silverbacks ship Vanderkooi to Powell River
The Salmon Arm Silverbacks have traded 2003-born goaltender Liam Vanderkooi to the Powell River Kings for future considerations.
Vanderkooi, who’s from Abbotsford, BC, was 13-2-2, with a 2.86 goals-against average, and a .904 save percentage in 17 games as a sophomore with the Silverbacks last season.
He also had a 5.08 GAA, an .829 SV%, and a 2-1-1 record in five games for Salmon Arm during the Vernon pod in the 2021 season.
Warriors trade Hlusiak to Hawkesbury of the CCHL for Reim
The West Kelowna Warriors have acquired 2002-born forward Rylee Hlusiak from the Hawkesbury Hawks of the Central Canada Hockey League for 2003-born defender Zach Reim.
Hlusiak, who’s from Barrie, ON, is committed to Sacred Heart University for next September. He had 29 goals and 68 points in 49 games with the Hawks last season. Hlusiak added three goals and seven points in five games with the Jersey Hitmen of the NCDC.
Reim, a native of North Oaks, MN, was a rookie with the Warriors in 2021-22. He finished the season with three goals and seven points in 46 games. Reim notched four points in 14 Fred Page Cup playoff games for West Kelowna.
Grizzlies bring in forward Bohn from Wenatchee
The Victoria Grizzlies have acquired 2002-born forward Owen Bohn from the Wenatchee Wild for future considerations.
Bohn is a native of San Jose, CA who tallied 14 goals and 29 points in 42 games as a rookie with the Wild last season.
Canucks sign DeKeyser to a professional tryout
Defender Danny DeKeyser (eight goals, 17 assists in 58 games with Trail in 2008-09) has signed a professional tryout with the National Hockey League’s Vancouver Canucks.
The 32-year-old blueliner from Detroit, MI had 11 assists in 59 games with the Detroit Red Wings in 2021-22, his ninth in the NHL. He has 146 points in 547 career games, all with Detroit.
Brosseau takes his game to China with Kunlun Red Star
27-year-old forward Devin Brosseau (58 goals, 96 assists in 144 games with Nanaimo from 2013-16) has signed with the Kunlun Red Star of the Kontinental Hockey League.
The St. Lambert, QC native had 11 goals and 20 points in 54 games with the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League in 2021-22.
He made his debut with Kunlun on Friday, finishing with two shots on goal and two penalty minutes in a 4-0 loss to Sibir Novosibirsk.
Zerter-Gossage signs an extension with Maine of the ECHL
Forward Lewis Zerter-Gossage (18 goals, 28 assists in 57 games with Penticton in 2014-15) has inked a contract extension with the Maine Mariners of the ECHL for 2022-23.
Zerter-Gossage, a 27-year-old from Montreal, QC, notched seven goals and 14 points in 17 games with Mariners in 2021-22. He also posted a pair of assists in eight games on loan to Tucson of the AHL.
Court gets an extension with the ECHL’s Rapid City Rush
Forward Zach Court (35 goals, 69 assists in 168 games with Nanaimo and Merritt from 2015-17) has signed an extension for 2022-23 with the ECHL’s Rapid City Rush.
The 25-year-old from Winnipeg, MB turned pro with the Rush last season and finished with four goals and a dozen points in 41 games. He also scored a goal in four ECHL playoff games.
Cherniwchan re-signs with the Stingrays
Forward Andrew Cherniwchan (12 goals, nine assists in 25 games with Nanaimo in 2007-08) has signed a contract that sees him return to the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL for the 12th straight season.
The product of Hinton, AB spent 2021-22 with the Stingrays, his third season as their captain. In 402 career ECHL games in South Carolina, he has 146 goals and 316 points.
