Express and Eagles connect on a 2-for-1 deal

2002-born forward James Bohn has been traded by the Coquitlam Express to the Surrey Eagles in exchange for 2003-born forward Holden Cardinal and 2003-born defenseman Luke Roberts.

Bohn, a Coquitlam native, has three goals and 22 points in 87 games with the Express over parts of four seasons. Included in the total are seven points in 19 games this season.

Cardinal hails from Surrey and has four goals and 20 points in 34 games for the Eagles over the duration of the last three seasons. He has three points in a dozen games in 2021-22.

Roberts, a product of West Vancouver, BC, notched two goals and 11 assists in 31 games combined between this season and last. In 2021-22, he’s notched five helpers in 17 games.

Spruce Kings and Vipers swap veteran forwards

The Vernon Vipers have sent 2002-born forward Logan Lorenz to the Prince George Spruce Kings in exchange for 2004-born forward Max Borovinskiy.

Lorenz, who is from Consort, AB, has eight goals and six assists through 38 games with the Vipers this season and last, including three goals and an assist in 18 games in 2021-22.

Borovinskiy, a West Vancouver, BC native, has seven assists in 23 games during his BCHL career with Prince George over the last couple of seasons. So far this year, he’s posted four helpers in 11 games.

Chudley handed a seven game suspension for a blow to the head and fighting

The BC Hockey League department of player safety announced on Monday that Jordan Chudley of the Chilliwack Chiefs has been suspended seven games for a blow to the head match penalty, a major penalty, and game misconduct for fighting after the end of a game. The infractions came in Sunday’s game against Surrey.

Chudley’s suspension starts on Wednesday when Chilliwack hosts Coquitlam. The 2001-born defenseman from Souris, MB is eligible to return to the Chiefs lineup against Alberni Valley at Chilliwack Coliseum on Dec. 18.

Galata tossed for two games for fighting

Surrey forward Cole Galata will miss the next two games with a suspension for receiving a fighting major and game misconduct at the end of a game as doled out by the BC Hockey League’s department of player safety on Monday.

The infraction occurred at the end of the third period against Chilliwack this past Sunday. The 2002-born forward from Barrie, ON serves the first game of his suspension on Friday when the Eagles visit Victoria. Galata is eligible to return on Sunday when Surrey heads to Nanaimo.

Gundarah, Say, and Draper earn BCHL three star honours

Langley goaltender Ajeet Gundarah, Salmon Arm netminder Owen Say, and Chilliwack forward Kienan Draper have been named the BCHL’s three stars for the week ending Nov. 28.

Gundarah, 18, was 2-0 for the Rivermen last week, with a 0.99 goals-against average and a .971 save percentage. The Richmond, BC product led Langley to road wins over Alberni Valley and Victoria. Gundarah’s save percentage this season is .934, good enough for second-best in the BCHL.

Say, a 20-year-old, posted a 1.00 goals-against average and a .969 save percentage en route to going 2-0 last week. The London, ON native was the game’s first star on Friday when he stopped 26 shots against Wenatchee, and then turned aside 36 of 38 shots on Saturday against the Wild.

19-year-old Draper recorded three goals and six points in a trio of games for the Chiefs last week. The Royal Oak, MI product scored a goal and added an assist in an 11-1 romp over Powell River on Wednesday. He then had two goals and an assist versus Coquitlam on Saturday and an assist against Surrey on Sunday.

Christensen goes from Worcester of the ECHL to Springfield of the AHL

Forward Blake Christensen (16 goals, 20 assists in 52 games with Wenatchee in 2015-16) was recalled by the American Hockey League’s Springfield Thunderbirds from the Worcester Nailers of the ECHL on Monday.

Christensen, a 26-year-old from Coral Springs, FL, has four goals and seven points in 12 games with the Railers so far this season. He has yet to play a game for the Thunderbirds in 2021-22.
